Resolve 15 crashes after splash screen

PostThu Aug 16, 2018 2:34 am

I made a post in the beta forums about the same issue, but it was never resolved since I was having issues creating an NFO file, but now all of that is fixed.

My log files and NFO file are located here -> https://drive.google.com/drive/u/0/folders/1qmQFbYfI3Sk8Uwv3u9kqHNP61rbJvRDD.

The details from my previous post, which haven't changed, is located here https://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=75219.

The only difference is, instead of it being the beta, it's the full Resolve 15 release.

If there is any other details you need, I'll try to get it for you as quickly as I can.

Thank you in advance.

Hmm... I always feel like i'm ignored on this forum.

Like, is no one else experiencing this?
Is none of the devs looking at this?
Is my post even visible?.....

You previously mentioned you could not make a nfo
Does you link have both following the crash?

Yes it does.

Maybe my post wasn't clear enough, but at the end of the first sentence, I mentioned that I resolved the issue in creating an NFO file.

I posted a link to the log file and the NFO on google drive in the first link. Both files were created after it crashed.

I can't really read your NFO file because it's in a language I can't read.

But I do see you have a Demoforge Mirage graphics driver loaded. In the past, weird VNC/remote Access graphics drivers like this have interfered with Resolve's GPU operation.

So my first suggestion would be to get rid of that and see if that helps.

I was able to uninstall the Mirage driver, but unfortunately that didn't solve the issue :-/

The program goes into weird state now, after the splash screen. The resolve processes are still running, but Resolve nor the crash window appear. I attached a screenshot of my task manager for you to see.

I'm not sure if it helps, but only the first beta of v15 works. So maybe something big changed in the code from the first beta to every subsequent version after, since I'm able to use it without issue.

P.S. The foreign language would be Korean. Copying and pasting into Google Translate should help.

I had a the same problem with previous versions (12B,14B)

and with 15, a similar one. only instead of crashing, it just takes a very long time to load. especially after the splash screen. just 2/3 minutes without anything happening.

so after a bunch of testing, i discovered that making a new database solved the problem. (still not quite satisfied with the speed, but its quite okay now.)

if there's a way to force resolve to load a different, or new database, it might solve your problem too.
like deleting the database (ofc with a backup) from the original location.

I've tried clean installs before, but that didn't help either. I never tried running the create database script manually though. I can give it a try and edit this reply if it changed anything.

btw, for a clean install, if you follow the ''normal'' uninstall procedure, and re-install resolve again, i dont think it will delete your old database. its still remains somewhere in your blackmagic folders. so you'll have to manually delete those too. not sure where exactly though. but i guess you already figured that.

For a total clean install, do the normal Resolve uninstall, as Rick mentions, from the Windows Control Panel - Programs and Features panel.

Then delete the C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve folder, if it still happens to be there (it shouldn't).

And delete the C:\ProgramData\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve folder.

Be aware that the folder above, contains the default Resolve Disk Database, which very likely has all your projects in it. And all your configs. And any LUTs you've added. All that stuff will be gone, gone, gone. So be VERY sure you have that backed up somewhere, if there is anything you care about. I'd recommend making a copy of the whole DaVinci Resolve folder and stash it somewhere, just in case.

After all the above, you will be doing a complete, fresh from scratch, install of Resolve. You'll get the onboarding video and initial setup options.

The only thing not affected by the above process is the PostgreSQL database. It remains untouched. If you have any PostgreSQL databases, they will remain untouched, BUT, they won't appear in the database manager area of the new Resolve install, until you Connect to them.

Clean install didn't work.

I saw it somewhere, but I can't seem to find it again. Isn't there an option to disable the Fusion and Fairlight buttons at the bottom of Resolve?

If possible, I want to try to disable both and enable them one by one to see if one of those programs could be causing the issue.

If it helps, I also uploaded the newly created log files to the same URL I posted earlier.

Removing the buttons from the GUI (which is what the script did) won't remove the functionality. They are built in Resolve.
