GPU memory full CRASH

PostTue Mar 28, 2017 4:36 pm

Hi -

Resolve keeps crashing my machine after giving the "GPU memory full" message.

I'm on a Mac, running 10.11.6

32GB Ram
NVIDIA GeForce GTX680MX 2048MB

Is this enough horsepower to work in Resolve?

Thanks!

If you are working with 4K footage or using Optical Flow, 2GB of GPU memory is too low.

Sorry - I should have been more specific.

I'm working with 1080p footage mixed with stills.

In many cases the stills are large, 24 megapixel photos that I've sized down in Premiere.

Could that be my problem?

The stills must be the problem, since they behave like a 4K (or greater) footage in terms of GPU memory use.

DaVinci uploads everything to the GPU to do the color / sizing processing.

2GB is the absolute minimum to run Resolve and just recomended for HD work. Two GPUs are recomended (one for the UI and the other for processing).

In your case I guess you only have 1 GPU, so it has to drive your UI and DaVinci simultaneously. So DaVinci does not have all the 2GB available for use.

Maybe that's the reason you are running out of memory.

That makes sense..

What I should probably do is make a version of my movie with no stills, do the corrections, and merge everything back in Premiere...

Thanks - this has been very frustrating and I appreciate your help.

Can someone please help me?

Particles are problematic in Fusion tab even with an 8 GB GPU.
In case you have the standalone, do it there.

To the OP: you could scale your stills to HD resolution.

You say that Particles are problematic in the Fusion tab, But I had made a few clip of 15sec at 1080P and 2160p with both 25FPS without any problems. But this time after I had add some 3d texting, it start say gpu memory is full and the it crash. I have to go to taskmamager to quit Davinci resolve and the start the app again. Is there a fix for this error. I already have remove DR15 en instal it again. but that had no effect on it. please help

Might be that combination, when I had a few crashes (hard to reproduce ones) with particles, there was some 3D text too. Same message like you, and then I needed to kill the program.

Works well in the standalone version.

Wat is the standalone version. i'm using the free version of DR15.
Cause i have only one GPU. And i don't use noise reduction
So the free version is the best for me.

I never had the probleem with DR15. This all begon suddely. I'm now force to use adoba prieme pro. Which i don't know nothing about.

I do see in my taskmanager that when i'm making particles. DR15 are using around 30% of the gpu power. And the Windows 10 Pro system is useing 30% of the gpu, which is new. I never had seen this. it whas always only DR15 who is useing GPU a lot!

I referred to Fusion as a standalone version, where particles work fine.
