PostSat Sep 01, 2018 2:24 pm

is there any way to get effects like glow, shine or glint work on transparent images using alpha to emit glow?:::

ive been working on it but no success, i have a png logo but i cant find a way to make it glow!
not native plugin glow Work, not BCC, Not even Saphhire or Red Giant!

on Premire you can ad any glow effect to any png and the image just glow!

I only know how to do this in (the) Fusion (page). Can you share the logo so we can see what you're working with? Because usually you don't want/need the alpha to drive the glow, since it covers your whole logo. Most of the time you want more glow on the lighter parts than on your darker parts. It all depends on what you're trying to achieve.

is there a way or workaround to do it without jump into Fusion?, any time i touch this fusion tab Resolve is practically unusable even with minimal fx applied!

Looks like it won't work just in the edit tab...

Tried the free Ignite Glow OFX filter...the glow effect is only applied within the PNGs alpha mask but not outside of it....

Did you find another solution in the mean time?

Roughly:
Split the alpha from the original clip
In resolve attach it as external matte
In color reveal it
Apply a similar glow to image and matte
Pipe the resulting matte to the [add alpha output] pipe.

Might work.

Had same question. Quick fix: One could use "drop shadow" to get similar results. Maybe several drop shadow stacked onto one another.

Did Resolve add a way to do it, or is it still impossible?

Seems still the case in 19.
Resolve seems to consider that transparent parts of a PNG have no pixels to work with but the glow effect takes these alpha parts as black. Turning off the alpha in the file properties does not help.

If you are doing it in the edit page. In the inspector of the edit page, for the logo png image, change the bland mode to add, screen or some other one you like. In the composite mode section of the inspector. Screen composite mode will make black pixels transparent. Leaving the glow effect and logo. Usually that is enough. If you have tricky logo and that is not enough. You can do what you need in fusion.

Generally speaking, glow should be applied to original image before its used as glowing transparent logo, and whoever makes the logo should prepare it before export. If that is not done, fusion can be used. But there are some things to keep in mind. I've covered the potential problems and solution in a previous in this thread.

Since than some of the things have been changed and fixed in the color page, but I'm not sure how it is in the Resolve 20 beta 1 and have any further changes been made. I'm still using Resolve 19.
In what bit depth are images processed in the edit page?
