Davinci Resolve Lite 11.2.1 Crashing on Startup

PostThu Feb 19, 2015 8:11 am

I just recently installed Davinci Resolve Lite in hopes of using it as my first color grading software, but every time I have tried to boot up the program, It gets stuck on "Loading Waveform Monitor" and crashes. I've tried re installing it, turning off amd crossfire, and downloading amd opencl drivers, but nothing has worked.

Computer Specs:

OS: Windows 7 64-bit SP1
Processor: i7 2600k
GPU: 2 x AMD R9 280x

I'm also attaching my crash reports in hopes that it will help further diagnose my problem.

If you have dual displays set up in Windows, temporarily change to a single display setup and see if that has any effect on the Resolve issue.

aaaaaaaaaaand it works! That's probably the weirdest fix I've ever seen for a program. It's kind of a shame that I'm not gonna be able to use my second monitor for grading, but at least the program runs now.

Thanks mate :)

The same problem for me. I was able to work normally in dual monitor setup with previous Resolve 11 versions. Is there any fix for this without disabling second monitor?

A user with AMD graphics on Windows was recently having odd issues. I advised to install the latest AMD Catalyst Omega 14.12 package.

This not only fixed his issue, but he reported that he could use dual screen mode again, which also had not been working.

So if you are not already using the 14.12 Omega Catalyst package, please install that and see if that helps.

I am running Resolve Lite 11.1.3 successfully on my AMD/Nvidia GeForce 9500 GT desktop in dual screen mode but 11.2 fails to start with the following crash report:
"Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: Resolve.exe
Application Version: 11.2.0.34
Application Timestamp: 54d05319
Fault Module Name: DNxHDCodec.dll
Fault Module Version: 2.0.1.266
Fault Module Timestamp: 549c88a9
Exception Code: c000001d
Exception Offset: 0000000000369009
OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.48
Locale ID: 2057
Additional Information 1: 861b
Additional Information 2: 861bf00784ae8f80cc244048b98e7abe
Additional Information 3: 1cef
Additional Information 4: 1cef1db8c81d8970100d6cbd83dda97e"

I have uninstalled 11.1.3 first but that has not changed the situation. Could it be the new DNxHDcode.dll module is incompatible with my hardware? As I use CDNG file sequences, I was looking forward to the improved processing in 11.2.

I have Resolve's crash report file but I'm not sure how to attach it?

Many thanks.

As has been mentioned in many threads, if you have an AMD CPU, it's likely that Resolve 11.2 and 11.2.1 are not going to work, and you'll need to use 11.1.3.

Do you have an AMD CPU?

I have an AMD R9 290x with an AMD CPU and confirmed 14.12 Omega doesn't fix the crashing of Resolve when using more than one monitor.

A workaround I created was going to your Catalyst Control Center and creating "Presets with Hotkeys". So I have Preset with all 3 monitors enable and another preset that Disable all Monitors but the "Main" display and launches Davinci Resolve at the same time. Once Davinci is open I press my Hotkey to enable all "3" monitors and Resolve works normally.

I know its a hassle but I do not know another way around the issue outside of swapping from AMD to
Nvidia.

** Update: 14.9 works without having to do any work around to launch resolve**

Hi,

In my opinion this is a serious issue that should get fixed ASAP (crashing on startup in systems with two or three monitors).

I'm running Resolve Lite 11.2.1.2 on a WIN7 Ultimate N (64-bit) PC and AMD R9 280X GPU. Catalyst version is 14.12

Cannot start the application without all the acrobatics disabling monitors, starting the application, and enabling them back. Eveytime I want to use the app. This is SOOOOO frustrating and has resulted that Resolve is collecting dust.

This is the ONLY application I have ever experienced not working on dual or triple monitors. And I'm not the only one having this problem. Running on two or more monitors is very common in our trade...

BlackMagic- is there a fix coming - and when ???

Please get a fix out for this.

I'm another one with the startup crash due to dual monitors. Intel CPU + AMD R9270x. Can only hope Resolve 12 addresses this issue as it doesn't seem anything is happing to fix 11.

Oddly all was working well, then a couple of occasional crashes then bang...no more starting up. not sure what, if anything changed but it's frustrating as.

Looking forward to even better editing in 12 tho so hanging on in desperation to see if the dual monitor issue is fixed

sigh... apparently this is still not fixed.... Just bought a MSI R9 390 card to upgrade the card I had that couldn't handle 4K and now I have this problem... After investing nearly $6k in a camera setup not expecting to have computer issues, attempting to resolve them after finding out I needed a larger video card only to find out there are ongoing problems with AMD cards, is truly disappointing....

The NVIDIA GeForce 320M 256 MB is far too weak for Resolve.
