DaVinci Studio 15 and ac3

PostTue Sep 04, 2018 8:58 pm

Hello Forum,

first of all I want to say: "Hi" since I am a just registered new user. I hope to be in here a lot for tips and tricks and just sharing experiences. Or just for some help.

As of now, I am using the free beta Version 15 running on a PC Win10 Vers. 1803. I shoot with a Sony PMW-X70, and I recrod in AVCHD and Audio in ac3.

After media import, there is no audio with the clips. Even though there is a small icon on the lower left of the clip-thumbnail with the audio symbol, there are no waveforms displayed.

I have already read on the internet that this is the case with some beta-users in combination with the Win10 1308 Update. Some say this problem only occurs with the beta version, and in the Studio Version this problem is obsolete.

Now I would buy the Studio Version if I knew for certain that I wouldn´t be having this problem anymore. It is quite tedious allways having to convert the .mts files into something which then has AAC-Audio.

Can you give me any suggestions on this one please?

thanks and have a good day,
Heiko

Since there seem to be problems with some of the .mts files, can you post a short example?

Hello Uli,

thank you for the reply. I have tried uploading one .mts file, but I get a "wegsite cannot be reached" error after clicking the "Add File" button in the "Upload attachment" tab.

Therefore I have posted a screenshot of my DVR-Screen with Inspector on -- there are the basic infos.

thanks in advance,
Heiko

You need to upload the video clip to a file sharing site and post the link here.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Hello Heiko,
There is something that I d'nt understand: you have a very good camcorder, why do you use this simple AVCHD- and not the much better XAVC-HD codec?
XAVC-HD has 4.2.2 and 10 bit! AVCHD only 4.2.0 and 8 bit.
Color correction in Davinci Resolve is of course with 10 bit much better, you have a lot of more reserve in corrections.
I've in XAVC-HD no sound problem, only instead of 2, 4 soundtracks in DR. Thats not a big problem, then sound is there!

If you want to post a URL, just insert one space and it'll be accepted in your posting.
We can then delete that before downloading.

Hello Dirk,

actually I hadn´t tried this yet. This was the camcorder I used at work. There we also edited with Final Cut Pro 7 -- and the software had some issues with XAVC-HD. Now I bought the same camcorder for my private use and just out of habit I still had the AVCHD function set. Thanks very much for the tip -- I will try it out tommorrow, maybe that will settle the whole issue.

have a good day,

Hello Heiko,
XAVC-HD works only in the Studio Version, but there it works.
My normal edit system is Edius8.5 WG.
I know that final cut had some problems with XAVC-HD but this had to be solved for long time.
Good luck!

Your clip plays fine here, with audio and in realtime.
But I second the suggestion to use XAVC, it has less compression artifacts.

Hello,

thanks all for taking a look at the clip.

So I guess it could be two reasons that I get not audio on my system:

1. I´m using the free beta version

or

2. I´m using Windows 10 Home and not Pro.

or both.

Thanks for all the helpful replies,
Heiko

Clip plays in Resolve 15 non Studio using Win 10 Home.
This may or may be not relevant but I also downloaded this XAVC test file. It also plays back with no problems. Again, non studio and Win10 Home.

Re: DaVinci Studio 15 and ac3 PROBLEM SOLVED

PostSun Sep 09, 2018 8:07 pm

Hello forum,

the problem I posted at the beginning of thread has been solved.

Actually I only de- and re-installed the beta Version, and after that everything went fine. So I guess my version of the beta 15 was out of date! Sorry for all the hassle!

I dug a little deeper into similar topics, and indeed one other user had already posted a similar problem here in May. There, another user replied that after the new update (beta 5), this problem had apparently ceased to exist.

Thanks anyway everybody for taking the time to read my post and help me with some answers.

have a good week,

Heiko
