TV CALIBRATION INSIDE RESOLVE

Hi everyone. I have my TV as an external monitor connected to Davinci Resolve in my Macbook via an UltraStudio Mini interface. I'm going to callibrate my TV for Resolve, with DispcalGUI passing patches to Davinci Resolve and creating a LUT. Question: Can I use the created LUTs in Resolve in a different computer (but the same TV)? At least, theoretically, I think the answer is yes: the Tv receives a true RGB signal, the LUT transforms colors, and this transformation is independent of my machine. Thx.

You can use it but it will not be accurate as on the calibrated one, when you change hardware (computer) it is better to do a calibration on every computer. When you create LUT, every measured point belong to output of your hardware you are working on and then it is corrected (calibrated) to have that accurate color.

It won't be different. There is a minute chance that a different driver might fix/break some intricate detail about the video signal which could cause the screen to interpret the colours differently, but that would also apply to driver upgrades on the same computer. If you're ever in doubt, DisplayCAL has a verification mode that spits out delta E values for a generated profile/LUT. If you run the verification on both systems and the delta E values are comparable (allow for the display to warm up, same environmental conditions etc yadda), it means the output from the Ultrastudio is the same and the LUT will still be valid.

Well, each computer or graphic card has a slightly different output which can make a huge difference on color rapresentation, they can be similar or very similar but are never the same. So when you apply the LUT made for one computer to another, what you will see on your tv may be very different. Ultrastudio in this case can not be considered why it will put out what he get from your computer output. Just think about it like yout TV is final output and your computer is your source of signal, everything between the source and TV is already considered during the calibration, thats why you have to calibrate if any component is changed in this chain. If you change your source in this chain, and you apply a LUT of another hardware on it, if there are any differences on output (there are differences) on your new source this LUT can make drastic changes and your color accuracy is not there anymore.

If there are differences in the digital output of individual Ultrastudio units that would be a serious problem that should be reported to Blackmagic. If there are differences in the digital output from the same Ultrastudio on different computers, then that is most likely a driver issue and installing the exact same driver on both systems should result in identical output.

Anything else is superstition.

Any difference in this case (due to GPU or BM card) =serious issues and negates whole point of accurate monitoring and use of Resolve itself
