Why Aces

PostMon Sep 24, 2018 6:44 am

Hi,
So far I haven't used ACES. Why should we use it? Can we achieve better results with it? So far I have very little success using ACES 1.1. Pls guide about your workflow. TIA

I gotta be honest, unless one is working at a certain level where they need to do a bunch of conversions to various formats and color spaces, I don't think ACES is needed. I recently spoke to a senior colorist at a very high-end post house here in L.A. who confessed that he never uses ACES on any of the many TV shows that he works on.

I do think colorists who work on projects that utilize a lot of VFX also probably find ACES a useful tool for round-tripping with all of the various VFX studios.

And even with support for ACES 1.1 in Resolve 15.1.0.25, ACES is not as fully supported as it was in Resolve 14.3, so don’t use it yet. It’s what I used almost exclusively in Resolve 14, but now forced back to using Resolve Colour Managed.

I'm getting ready to start a project next week on Resolve 15 and ACES.
What is the issue you are having?

Thanks for asking! Last time I tried to enter the IDT for the URSA Mini 4.6K sensor in the Project Settings, there wasn’t an appropriate IDT. Am I mistaken?
