Resolve not utilizing system resources when exporting

PostThu Aug 23, 2018 7:29 pm

I've taken a look at my resources panel while i'm exporting from Resolve and got the this numbers:
CPU (Intel 7820x) : around 40%
RAM (64GB DDR4): around 40%
GPU (GTX 1060 6GB): around 30%
Disk: 0%

Attached is a screenshot of the resource panel.
I can't seem to understand where's the bottleneck and why isn't Resolve utilizing my machine better.
I work from SSD's, one for media, one for renders etc, one for OS.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Eli

Well, DPX export did yield different results as can bee seen in the attached screenshots.
It bottle necked my SSD Writing to it at 100%, although CPU and GPU remained similar to the Cineform and H264 exports.

What am i to make of this?

What are your source files?

Is it possible you are hitting thermal limits so the operating system is more holding you back? Did you notice the fans running?

Thermals are fine, source files varies. I had a project that was all DNxHD, i had a project of mixed XAVC files and drone h264 files, same results.

How about mxf dnxhr? Or import the exported file and re export in another format to see if the bottleneck is when decoding.

Export DNxHR or Cineform. Bring it back to Resolve, add some grading nodes and export back to eg. DNxHR.
Check CPU load.
You said nothing about your project. Anything special there, specially 3rd part filters etc?

I did that and CPU loads did go up to 40%-65% so it does affect it in some way.
Originally i did had some 3rd party filters on some of the shots, when i did it this time i only used Resolve panels, no other filters at all.

Still it seems something keeps it from utilizing my machine's power, any ideas what is it?
