I would like to change the color of an object in a video. I have a JPEG with the color that I would like to match. Is it possible to pick/select the desired color from the JPEG to apply to the video in lieu of using the color wheels or RGB settings to change the object color?

The Colour Compressor OFX is perfect for this. Not available in the free version though. Pull a key, perhaps use a shape as a garbage mask to protect the rest of the image, and apply the colour compressor OFX.
Be aware that how easy or hard this task will be is highly dependent on the footage. Also, whether it ends up looking realistic or not - it’s more complicated than just hitting a particular RGB. You have to imagine and work towards what an object (of the correct RGB) would look like in context, ie in that particular environment, under those particular lighting conditions, with those particular surface characteristics… and then filter it through the overall look of the image. Coke red is not Coke Red RGB when the lights are off.
You are correct. I am not a colorist, but after viewing a couple of Youtube videos and playing around with the color wheels and graphs, I have accomplished the desired "look". Not so hard after all.
