Stabilizing shots that also have Dead Pixel Fixer

PostFri Mar 15, 2019 3:46 pm

I've been utilizing the Dead Pixel Fixer OFX effect in my workflow lately.

It's a great and efficient way to deal with dead camera pixels, (c300s seem to be the worst offending camera models).

The problem comes when trying to use Dead Pixel Fixer AND the Camera Stabilizer together.

It appears the Camera Stabilizer effects shots PRE the Node graph. So any dead pixels fixed with the Dead Pixel Fixer are visible again and dancing all over the frame.

We need a way for the Resolve Camera Stabilizer to effect shots POST the node graph or a Camera Stabilizer OFX effect that we can place appropriately in the Node structure.

Export your pixel fixed clips, re-import and stabilize.

Yep, that's the work around I'm doing now....but it's a pain.

I'm hoping for a feature upgrade to address this.

Until then that's the extra busy work I need to do.

I am pretty sure Fusion processes prior to stabilization. Could you do your dead pixel fixes in the fusion tab?

Apologies for not being more clear. I wasn't asking if it was possible to do it in the fusion tab. I was wondering if it would fit into his workflow to do the work in the fusion tab.

I know that for myself I often am doing my dead pixel removal in the group pre clip as that allows me to select all shots for a particular camera. If you are doing the fixes in the fusion page that would then require you to do each individual shot which might not work into a particular workflow.

Why not nest in a composition and then stabilize?

That would work for projects that I finish in Resolve!

However, I try not to use compound clips if I'm round tripping back to Avid for finish/output.

Complicates the relink. I always end up having to manually over-cut the compound clips back into the Avid timeline.

Same issue...
I'm trying to remove dead pixels on a stabilized clips. And that's a pain :(

You could say that I should use Compound Clips, but it becomes complicated if this clip has transitions...
When you convert a clip into compound one, all the video transitions around this clip are lost. When you trying to add them again, Resolve says that this clip has insufficient handles to apply the transition:

And also, this problem appears when you slow down the clip speed, and retime method is not "Nearest". Dead pixels start to jump, and Dead Pixel Fixer cannot remove them.
