What deliverable standard is that for?

2.7K is offered in many camcorders and most Drones. I personally use in when recording my drone cinematography for two reasons; higher resolution than 1080P but less than 4K which requires more processing horsepower for editing and rendering. I know Filmora supports it and I am fairly certain Premiere Pro CC and others supports it, as well. Not all aspiring cinematographers can afford the likes of a Mac Pro and Power Windows PCs and many use 2.7K for the reasons I stated above; I being one of them. The addition of 2.7K adds versatility and option :-)

All good to know but…

You don't need a preset to read 2.7K media.

You just set up your project & timelines to reflect the resolution(s) at which you will be delivering. (In case you wanted to make 2.7K intermediates from your originals, then you would just check box "render at source resolution" on the deliver page.)

Thanks for your reply.

Yes, I know how to set it up manually. I was trying to say it would be nice to have 2.7K presets to eliminate the additional steps.

As a software design engineer for 30+ years, I learned that richness and robustness in a system is a good thing and definitely adds value. Eliminating steps for the user and purchaser also adds value.

Again, thanks for replying.

Wouldn't clicking "render at source resolution" be just as much work as clicking a preset?

It was not my goal to get into a verbal contest. I was just making a suggestion;

Here is a test I did with a 2.7K session I did edited with Davinci Resolve 16 B2:

Not looking for critique; just showing what I did with DR16 B2

Hi Edward, i guess we are looking at this from two different approaches so id like to understand what you are really trying to achieve.

You asked for a 2.7k preset.. ok. Whats the vertical res.. ie. 2700 x ??
I expect you are then planning to edit and grade and then render to that same format? Yes?
What do you play that on?

From my perspective, the camera source res need not have anything to do with the delivery res. And generally we deliver into one of a few standards.. well many but they are still standards. Like UHD, or HD or 8K etc.

So I'm trying to understand the need for a 2.7k preset.
You can also make a 2.7 preset yourself and save that as your system default so every new project starts there.. details in the manual under project settings, presets.

this open the door for insane formats: red, alexa, sony, BM all have different geometry.

why not have a tool in the settings that allow us to point at a clip in the media page and set the resolution to that?

That's how Vegas Pro does it - click a button to "get settings from media."

Possible example use case: Colour grading (including sharpening) and output of clips at their native resolution for further editing in another program, while monitoring at native resolution. (personally, I just check the "render at source" box on deliver page, but maybe it makes a difference?)

I wasn't trying to sound combative or anything. It just sounded to me like the "render at source resolution" option seemed just as good or better than a specific resolution preset. Wasn't sure if I was missing something about it.

It seems to me that my simple request/suggestion for a feature that most of the other platforms support, has started a philosophical debate. So, I'll make it easy, I withdraw my request/suggestion.

There is a separate forum for Feature Requests, Kish.

viewforum.php?f=33

Best practice is to search first, to see if someone already asked. If not, post one idea per thread with a very brief description of the idea in the thread's title.

That said, the new Magic Mask feature in 17 might be to your liking.
