Video Monitor LUT affects GUI, even when GUI set to No LUT

PostSun May 19, 2019 8:36 am

This issue has been brought up many times in the past, and for some users this issue still exists, even in DaVinci Resolve 16 beta2.

The problem is that the GUI viewer LUT selection does not work in edit and fairlight.
The GUI viewer LUT selection does work as intended for color and deliver.

With version 16 the CUT page is added, and this page too, does not work at all with the GUI LUT selection.

Rather than go over everything again (system specs etc....), here are links to older and more recent threads :
https://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=74894
https://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=91503

To re-iterate, when selecting an external monitor LUT, this incorrectly gets applied to the cut, edit and fairlight viewers as well, even when the viewer LUT is set to 'no lut'.

Only selecting a LUT for the viewer LUT (and no external video LUT) does not work at all in cut, edit and fairlight.

Everything works as expected in color and deliver.

No change in beta 5, too!

I had to calibrate the external monitor via Video Monitor LUT on my second system and run in to this!

Color and Deliver page looks fine!
I think Media and Fusion page also...

On the Cut, Edit and Fairlight page it looks like the LUT is also applied bevor everything else
and thereby additionally "doubles" or "multiplies" it on the Decklink output!!!

Very annoying if you have to switching back and forth between Color and Edit...

Indeed, it still does not work properly in beta5.

I just noticed that this bug also affects the scopes. This is even worse than I thought.

This bug has been dragging along for so many versions now... it doesn't seem there is much interest to fix this.
Not even informal questions to get to the bottom of what is going on.

This is sad.

It worked for one day!
Yesterday I installed beta6 and everything was fine!
Only Decklink output get the LUT.

Today I started my project and the same problem as before!

I think it's all broken now.

Started an new Project and now all pages all viewers and scopes are "infected"!

BTW:
GPU-scopes are not "infected"!
I switched to the old-scopes, because the gpu-scopes seems to be very hungry.

I also tried to set viewer and scopes to a "Do Nothing LUT", but nothing seems to help.

PLEASE Support!
This is very annoying bug for people reliant to use an output LUT!

Okay, figured something out:

This "doubling or multiplying" on the EDIT page I mentioned before is only in ACES mode!
Using YRGB it looks like there is only the LUT applied in the viewer, wich should not, of cause!

It looks like the "Use Video Monitor Selection" in "Viewer LUT "is always on!

Solved it with disabling:
Preferences>User>Playback Setting>Hide UI Overlay

In YRGB everything looks fine now!

In ACES its okay on the Color page, but not the Edit page. :(
I have turn off the video Monitor LUT manually.

Cheers

Is the bug still there? Do you have to "Hide UI Overlay" to bypass the bug?
I am on Resolve Studio 15 and would like to know if the beta is finally working as expected. Thanks.
