Syncing with Compound Clips

PostSun Aug 04, 2019 11:46 pm

Hey all,

So I've looked all over, including in these message boards, for an answer to this question—I'm stumped!

I have a bunch of interview footage that we shot with the Sony PXW-FS7M2. Because the interviews were above a certain length, the camera split the interviews into multiple clips. We recorded dummy audio on the camera in order to aid in syncing and the boom audio was recorded as single, long files, one for each interview.

We did clap each interviews, so it's literally possible for me to sync with them with the markers, but there are 35 interviews and everything is theoretically there for me to sync them automatically.

HOWEVER: the only way I can see in Resolve to merge the multiple clips for a single interview is to create a "compound clip." And from what I can tell, it is not possible to auto-sync an audio track and a "compound clip" made up of multiple end-to-to end video files.

So: how do I sync these bad boys!

Thanks very much in advance for any help you might be able to provide.

Best,

Thomas

Have you tried the Create New Multicam Clip option? Then under angle sync select sound. It doesn't always work the best but for a controlled situation like yours I think that's what you're looking for.

That doesn't work well because it refuses to sync clips taken with the same camera. If you tell the software that those clips came from multiple cameras then it sort of works but you'll end up with a sync clip with blanks. Then you need to split at the blanks and switch camera manually. Unless you can tell it to switch to an active camera somehow. It's still feels the wrong way though because it's just a single camera.
