Davinci studio 16, NVENC unavailable

PostTue Sep 03, 2019 3:49 pm

Since Yesterday, I have my new Davinci Resolve Studio version. Unfortunaly I dont get the Nvidia encoder in the delivery Tab. I can see under preferences that DR recognizes the graphic card and it is possible to choose between cuda and open cl but no option for render Cache, optimized media or export.
Do you have any Idea.

Yes I know, my computer isnt the newest.

Intel quad Core i7 920 2,67
24 GB RAM
Nvidia 1050 driver Studio 431.70
windows 10 home 64 Bit

Thanks a lot!

I don't think that the NVENC works for codecs other than H.264 or H.265. Are you trying to export in one of these codecs or another?

...!

Can you explain how you wanted to use NVENC in the Delivery page?

I’ve seen it is possible to export QuickTime or mp4 in h.264 and below appears a drop down menu for encoder options: native and Nvidia. Like in this screenshot. But I don’t have it.
I only want to export a HD 1080 with the benefits of gpu acceleration

Does the 1050 (a pretty low-end card) support NVENC? If it does then make sure your drivers are up to date.

Some people have inadvertently installed the free Resolve when they meant to install Resolve Studio.

Hit the drop down menu for "DaVinci Resolve" and hit the "About" option. Make sure the pop up panel says "STUDIO 16"

If it's the free version, why would the About popup say Studio?

For the OP, here are a couple of snaps of the DaVinci Resolve --> Preferences panel settings on my Studio installation.

Don't know what to say. Your About panel shows that you have Studio, but your Deliver and Preferences panels look like they do on my laptop that has the free Resolve installed.

The only thing I can come up with is that somehow a Registry key got messed up but that's mostly a guess. Maybe uninstalling DR and the NVIDIA drivers and then reinstalling them would make it work, but that's a pure guess. Hopefully someone else has a better idea.

Probably Nvidia lies: https://developer.nvidia.com/video-encode-decode-gpu-support-matrix

This is a Resolve imposed restriction. If we use up too much VRAM for h265 encoding, then you will have problems with Resolve processing.

Thanks a lot, i think my question is solved. After years i moved finally from premiere to Davinci Resolve and I am satisfied but now is time to move to a new computer.

Return to DaVinci Resolve
