I'm running the most recent Resolve 16 Beta V3 on a 2018 Mac Mini Running Mojave. Whenever I try to toggle on the proxy mode, it does indeed reduce the size, but then does not properly resize to the full timeline size and instead leaves a black box around the area of "empty pixels". Anybody else running into this?
New to Resolve, so any help much appreciated. I'm trying to help the playback of my footage by using proxy mode, but when I choose 1/4 or 1/2 res proxy, it just makes the picture smaller. Really frustrating!

What are the input and output sizing settings you mention?
You might try in: Project Settings/Image Scaling/Output Scaling/Mismatched resolution files Choosing "Scale entire image to fit" I think this worked for me.

Thank you very much. This works. I love this community.

I can't seem to get it to work in 16b5 even when "scale entire image to fit" is selected. Proxy mode just makes the image 1/2 size floating in the middle of the screen.

Did you set "scale entire image to fit" for output scaling or for input scaling?

It's not fixed. Another direct workaround (the above solution is the default but doesn't work for me):
select Render Cache/None, Smart or User (no matter which one you choose, you can choose what's currently check-marked to not disrupt your settings)
It should jump back to full frame...

I have this same problem: black border round proxy and optimised media. I have tried changing the Input and Output Scaling, but to no effect. In fact no matter what I choose for Mismatched resolution files, the output remains the same - black border. Restarting Davinci/rebooting has no effect. Deleting the render cache makes no difference, neither does toggling through None/Smart/User in Render Cache make any difference. As I've exhausted all the suggestion in this post, I'm not too sure how to proceed. The footage was shot as BRAW 6144x3456, and my timeline is set to 3840x2160 UHD, so I don't know if that makes any difference?
Any help greatly received as at the moment the only way I can view the footage comfortably is to switch the view from Fill to zooming it in.
