16.1.1 exports tagged with wrong color profile 1-2-1

Since 16.1 all my exports (MOV (h284 and ProRes) and MP4) are tagged with colorprofile (1-2-1) which is sRGB (g2.2) I think...

Only workaround for now is to use the automator to change it in HD (1-1-1)!

Maybe a bug?
OSX update?

I am still on High Sierra...

I think it is an attempt of Resolve to finally "fix" the "gamma" issue on OSX.

That is great!

But what I think is missing is a video or a small pdf from Blackmagic Design explaining how those new settings actually work in 16.1.

tagged with colorprofile (1-2-1) which is sRGB (g2.2) I think...

It's Rec709 Gamma 2.4 (strictly speaking the 2 is for an assignable gamma value), as you can see in the Media Pool if you bring it back in (under the Input Colour Space Column).

I figured out, there was another problem in my workflow...

Maybe I got professionally blinkered!

- Yes, didn't know:
1-2-1 means there is some "custom" gamma assigned.
Set the system to
Rec.709 Gamma 2.4 > profile is 1-2-1 with 2.4
Rec.709 Gamma 2.2 > profile is 1-2-1 with 2.2

but:
Set the system to
Rec.709 (Scene) > profile is 1-1-1, which you also can see resolve it the "Input Color Space" tap!


OSX Automater.app:
you edit a workflow or service (right click menu).
You will find something like "set colorprofile" in the library under movies (I have german version).
BUT you cant set a specific gamma, only HD or SD or RGB...

Haven't used it for years, because back in the days the was no profile at all in any export of any program as I remember...

Yes, it's only a tag or metadata.

If you import them for example in Resolve (DaVinci YRGB, not Color Managed) this will be ignored.
Tested it with ProRes422HQ files.

For example Quicktime using (trying) it to display it "correctly" on your display, if it's correctly calibrated/profiled via ICC...


That's likely what's Resolve using, if you checked "Use Mac Display Color Profiles for Viewers".
It should be the same!
But it is not! Gamut maybe, but gamma NO!
There are still some issues with this option, like with the Monitor/Viewer LUT not working correct on Edit Page!
But this is another issue...

Also a quick option to get 1-1-1 instead of 1-2-1 is setup the metadata tags:

Colospace Tags: Rec.709
Gamma Tag: Rec.709-A

The Video Patcher by Alex Mogurenko has a great tool to set such parameters, not only for QT, but for MXF too.

Did some tests. YouTube is all over the place.

This last one is the only one which give me a transparant image with no gamma shift on my timeline. The Quicktime export is also transparant all the others have a shift in gamma.
