1080 HD > sensor 4K

When filming in 1080p HD, the camera uses the entire sensor, or just part of it?

I'm fairly certain BMD has said in the past that the entire "4K" sensor is used to create 1080p video. So, for example, a lens' FOV doesn't change when the camera is switched between its 4K & 1080p modes.

This is how the original BMCC works, too: It scales its "2.5K" sensor imagery down to record 1080p video, or records full the 2.5K.

As Peter said, the entire sensor is used and the image is downscales so you angle of view is identical. This is one of the unheralded features of this expensive camera. Contrast that to a cheap camera like the RED EPIC that crops the sensor for smaller resolutions and faster frame rates.

No footage has been posted yet from the BMPC4K. We assume that BMD is still tweaking the colour science for the new sensor and it is possible this state will continue at least a few more weeks since it is (1) very important to come close to the image quality of the BMCC and BMPCC sensors and (2) very difficult!
