Agreed! Even on 2k monitors it is too difficult to use.
We need a new GUI engine if QT does not provide what is needed on Windows.

Qt's ability to support HiDPI is improving, let's hope it will translate into Resolve real soon.

Meanwhile, there is an un-official way to fix...

See below for details.

Which leads me to a digikam thread and I wonder if it can help Resolve if the parameter is baked in during build?

A temporary workaround:

Opened a PowerShell window and use these commands to set these environment variables:
Code: Select all
cd "C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\"
$Env:QT_DEVICE_PIXEL_RATIO = 2
$Env:QT_AUTO_SCREEN_SCALE_FACTOR = 1
.\Resolve.exe
It's from Himbeer blog: https://blog.himbeer.me/2020/03/07/fixi ... n-windows/

Cheers.

I guess all of that will only work if and only if the next Resolve version gets rewritten to not span a single window across multiple screens.
That new QT version can GET the density of each screen from Windows/X11/MacOS, but it will still only SET the density for each window.

That would be nice, but it seems quite a way to go considering that currently HiDPI doesn't even work (out of the box) on a single screen...

Agreed.
It's a huge technical dept but at some point is must get fixed properly instead of adding features.

This is just a copy of something I posted on another thread, but hope it helps!

Hey I just found the perfect* solution!!!!
(It's my first post, so please excuse the lack of an url, I guess the forum forbids new users from posting urls)
Search for 'solution for UI scaling davinci resolve 4k screen' on YouTube.

Basically you fool the OS into thinking you have a 5K monitor by using AMD's Virtual Super Resolution functionality, then set the Windows scaling option to 200%
Nvidia users such as myself can use Dynamic Super Resolution; go to 'Nvidia Control Panel>Manage 3D Settings>DSR - Factors' and set it to 1.5~2.0.

Huge kudos to this guy for finding this.

*I have found some text to be just a tad blurry(Japanese text in Tweetdeck for example), but it's miles better than having to fiddle with the 'force scaling' from Windows' high dpi setting.

Resolve 17 is out and still no change on the UI front. This is the biggest disappointment for non Mac users.

Agreed. Attached a screenshot of my grading window on a 4K monitor. Completely unusable; the actual footage is taking up... 12% of the entire screen? How am I supposed to grade my footage if I can't even see it? Solution:

- Buy a second monitor ($1,500)
- Buy a color panel ($1,000)

Or, they could simply allow us to scale the font and icon sizes so I'm not using the large-print edition.

Yes, I've tried enabling HiDPI on the EXE file within Windows, but then it breaks some program functionality (can't access Timeline View Options, for example.)

Same here but my UHD (not DCI 4K) monitor is a 17" laptop screen
and a 7" field monitor has the scopes.
At home I can use a calibrated, external monitor just for the footage but not on the road.
