Does BMCC LCD turn off when attached to SDI?

PostThu Jul 18, 2013 2:45 pm

I have a ATEM 1M/E Production Switcher. I want to know if, when attached to the ATEM through SDI, the Blackmagic Cinema Camera's display does turn off. What means: will I need to buy a external monitor, or the camera's display will keeps on when I attach SDI cable?

The BMCC screen remains on when you connect an SDI cable and you can view what the camera sees.

It is also the only way to operate the camera so has to stay on.

Just for clarification, you can set the SDI output so it is showing only the video or video with guide overlays, and have the LCD be up with menu only showing.

Hey everyone.

I sent the same question for Blackmagic´s support and received the following answer:

Thanks for contacting us. The SDI output of the Blackmagic Cinema Camera does not turn off the camera's display so you will be able to connect it to your ATEM switcher and still see your displays on the camera without looping through an additional monitor. Please be advised that the camera will need to be running firmware version 1.3.1 or higher and SDI Overlays will have to be turned off to send a compatible signal to the ATEM over SDI.

So, it confirms what was said above.

Thanks.
