There goes my evening with the family tomorrow...
I wonder if I can make my 5.5 years old daughter interested in watching a presentation in a language she doesn't understand about a topic she doesn't care? Maybe if Grant does put some Elsa & Anna stickers onto the new camera(s)?

I can laugh about this announcement because I was going to purchase to 6K cameras today. I can wait until tomorrow now.

The new Resolve update says:
Support for Blackmagic RAW 1.8 has also been added.

That may be what the announcement is. I have no idea what the current version of BRAW is on our cameras. If I had to guess, I would say 1.7.

Was this the same source as "Blackmagic Pocket Ursa cinema camera 6k/8k" you mentioned before? Good source you have. The best

My guess is a new URSA Mini Pro with a next generation 6k APS-C sensor, still a rolling shutter but with a very fast read-out like the 4.6k Gen 2. A bit higher DR like 16.5 stops, improved BRAW 2.0, CFexpress card slots, 150 fps in full 6k and 300 fps in 2.8k crop mode. 4 channel audio. Firmware 7

Enabled accelerometer/position sensor with meta data support for VFX (like for post stabilization).
Vastly improved AF plus object tracking AF through neural processor.
Support for wireless video previewing.

EDIT:
And a larger LCD like on the original UM46k but with increased brightness like from the VideoAssist.

"Camera update" sound more like firmware update for an existing camera. Maybe turn BMPCC4K to a webcam via USB connection?
Or perhaps Braw for original UM 4.6k. Maybe they're enabling global shutter as originally promised

Could also be an update on the product line :p It could be anything.

If they make a new camera, I highly hope they'll bring back the gyro thing they planned to put in the 4.6k originally, could be very useful for VFX and camera tracking.

I'm still content with my Ursa Mini Pro G1.
Until it goes caput, I feel no desire to move to another body.

What i'm saving for is lensing, specifically Anamorphic.
I have great still lenses, a decent all-purpose zoom, and some fun crappy lenses to play with.

Oh boy if this is a major braw firmware update for the p4k I will be STOKKEDDD!!! But who knows, could be a response to the a7s3 and r5, new product announcements maybe? All I hope is that bm finally adds a decent ir cut filter inside their cameras, no need for 300 dollars heliopan filters no more.

We need more lens mount options. It has been proven that the MFT mount is good option for Super 35mm sensors. Imagine a Fujinon MK lens on the Ursa Mini...Perfect balance for shoulder-mount applications.

No. I'm here in this forum just because I find BMD cameras pretty and sexy. And Grant is a piece of bread too. And it just makes sense to preffer a firmware update for a camera I dont have than crave for a new camera release.

Wouldn't it be great if the update was enabling the internal quantum flux capacitor. So we would never miss a shot and always recorded the best take flawlessly.

Re: New camera announcements will be made on July 16

Well the URSA Mini Pro G2 is long overdue for an update. So definitely Firmware Update for the UMPG2. This includes the preset 1:1 and 4:5 frame guides and the custom frame guides. Maybe the pinch to zoom up to 8X. Those are the two major things that the Pockets have the UMPG2 doesn't. The UMPG1 got the frame guides updates.

Beyond that my guess is as good as yours. I'm still hoping for the original URSA Mini 4.6K to get BRAW and Color Science 4. That would make it worth having kept it. And, I was recently told to keep it and to buy a Pocket 6K instead of doing a trade in by someone close... so maybe a hint. I wouldn't put a lot of stock in that, but it does make me wonder...

Either way, I think if there is any new cameras it is likely the Micro camera may finally get a 4K or 6K update. Either the Pocket 4K or Pocket 6K sensor in the Micro body with the Micro body having a few changes and updates. Those Micros were really cool and I'd definitely use one to achieve certain shots.

I doubt the Pocket 6K will be replaced by a new Pocket because it's less than a year old. But you never know, and they could do a Pocket 8K to all our surprises since everyone seems obsessed with 8K.

URSA Mini 8K? It's possible, and would likely be Super 35mm Sensor Size based on previously statements from Hook about difficulties with larger sensors for QC. The URSA Mini Pro G2 is only a year and a half old at this point, but got very few firmware updates. So maybe just firmware updates and a tease on what they're developing regarding the next generation.

Personally I'd love for them to announce an OLPF that they've built. Maybe a new Viewfinder.

Nonetheless, I'm very excited to hear what they announce.

Do I need to have my money ready for pre-order?

All I care about is:
- new color science
- new camera with box form factor (updated Micro w/4k 60fps? Pocket level? Ursa level?!?!?!)

Other than that, my Pocket 4K is the best deal on the planet.

I'm also suffering from insomnia this last week. My sleep cycle is all kinds of messed up. So this isn't going to help me sleep either. And, my excitement is starting to reach a critical mass. Why? Because I only have 2K left to pay off on the Steadicam and I have credit card room to make purchases. Oy! My wallet is going to hate me.

Great - so you think that statement will make me sleep better this night? :D
Now I am even more curious than ever what we will get shown tomorrow.

Are you familiar with what some in the Southern Hemisphere call Christmas in July ?

My wish is a 4K, small-box form factor camera with m43 mount. I wouldn't complain if BM could squeeze out another stop of dynamic range.

Basically, an updated BMCC, or the P4K without the P. Call it the ""BMCC4K" or the "B4K".

If we're talking firmware updates, I really hope that BM enables the telemetry hardware that is already present in existing cameras and updates Resolve to take advantage of it for stabilization, tracking, etc.

New camera announcements will be made on July 16

PostWed Jul 15, 2020 5:57 pm

You know I’m excited about ANY update or ANY new product. It’s all good for me even if I’m not able to take advantage of a new product...

Of course BRAW everywhere would be nice so the original URSA Mini 4.6K camera raw would be the same codec as the BMPCC4K.

A piece of cake might be better integration of the BMPCC4K and the BMVA12G7 such as enabling the BMVA12G7 to record BRAW from the BMPCC4K or the BMVA12G7 control the BMPCC4K. The whipped cream would be an automated match of the ‘colour’ of both screens on camera and monitor/recorder. The cherry on top would have that colour quality more accurate (not talking reference monitor grade, better than current screens that have colour shifts).

Resolve 17 must be coming soon at least as a public beta.

Oh man, no erector sets, please. Ask me, and the ideal low cost camera is one which delivers HD at higher quality/DR than ever before, and with what's becoming stock features on cameras of commensurate size: VFW, IBIS, articulated screen, AF tracking, etc.

In other words, a first or second generation m43 Alexa, in a DSLR form factor. And they'd probably sell 15 of them because, like, I gotta 8K future proof all the movies I'll never make, and so what if nearly all the cinema classics were shot with a horizontal of 21mm or less, I need 36mm.
