I always felt I have bought my last Blackmagic camera 2yrs ago the BMPCC4K. There is only a few things that would make me buy BMD camera again and it will not be fullframe because the R5 is favourite at the moment. If there is IBIS and really good AF, and if the price is reasonable then maybe but I might be dissappointed.

Are you familiar with what some in the Southern Hemisphere call Christmas in July ?

JB

Well my birthday was on Monday, so I'll call this a late birthday present.

My birthday is this Sunday July 19th, but I am not going to be able to buy any new gear for a while. Nevertheless I am pumped for whatever BMD will announce tomorrow.

In other words, a first or second generation m43 Alexa, in a DSLR form factor. And they'd probably sell 15 of them because, like, I gotta 8K future proof all the movies I'll never make, and so what if nearly all the cinema classics were shot with a horizontal of 21mm or less, I need 36mm.

I'd be one of the 15 customers. Would love 2.5K version in OG BMPCC size with all the things you mentioned. And actually battery life >= 90 minutes or so.

Like I said earlier I was going to pull the trigger on a pair of 6K's today. Tomorrow will either be the same to better so I am in a no-lose situation.

Since I am buying now I want something that will take me through the next 2-4 years, at least. If an 8K is announces, and I think it will be, then this set's me up for the near future starting on day 1. I am very excited.

Basically, an updated BMCC, or the P4K without the P. Call it the ""BMCC4K" or the "B4K".

If we're talking firmware updates, I really hope that BM enables the telemetry hardware that is already present in existing cameras and updates Resolve to take advantage of it for stabilization, tracking, etc.

BMD was into something when they introduced the Micro Cinema Cameras. Unfortunately they were marketed as crash cams. This time they are facing fierce competition from Zcam; another low cost compact cinema camera with internal ProRes recording. It is time to bring the boxy form factor back with updated internals, better build quality, and more versatile accessories.

Damn, if only I could make my shoot go away. I wonder if the client will notice my watching the stream with one eye while the other one is focused on, well, focusing :)

Fortunately, a good friend on this forum has offered to feed me the biggest highlights via text, so I look forward to joining the party tomorrow.

I'd like to see a successor to the Ursa line (just so the naming scheme is shorter) and a Micro Cinema camera replacement.

Why do people still want DSLR/Mirrorless -style screens?
I get some flexibility when holding it low or high, but placing it at the rear of the camera body has never appealed to me.
Heck, I don’t even use the LCD on my UMP that much and just use a top-mounted monitor.

Man.... throwing fuel on the fire. hahaha

I'm going to take a guess here...

8K high end cinema camera(8K because all their new hardware supports 8K so that's a definite), Full Frame because... everyone has one so I think this is a given, and more dynamic range (I just hope it's all in the highlights/above middle grey).

Other things:

1. Body - Could be the same as the UMP but for some reason, I think it's going to be a new body.
2. Autofocus - I'm going to say no.
3. Internal NDs - yes
4. Dual ISO - this is a tough one. Hmmm.... I'm going to say yes.

Maybe a new pocket also? I only say that because the pocket 6k dropped in price. I have no idea what it'll be if there is one though.

I'm excited. Should be fun!

This product is either going after ZCAM (Pocket Level) or Komodo (Ursa Level). We’ll know based on the features and price.

I have some money ready. Hopefully it’s enough

The 6K in a Zcam format would be pretty great. The MCC format is a little to small but rumour is that canon is bringing some thing like a new XC-15 so maybe smaller like the MCC is a way not to go directly head to head.. Then again if they want to announce they licensed the Olympus AF and IBIS patents and are including them that would be cool.

My main guess is that they are going to atleast talk 8K. I don't need it but every one and monkey are at least paying lip service to it and BMD isn't really a lead from behind kind of company.

The thing about this rumor is that it's not logically looking at things. If Blackmagic goes Full Frame (VistaVision) then it will likely happen in the URSA Mini Pro lineup first. Then eventually it would make it's way to a Pocket type of camera down the road. I have a hard time figuring out why this person doesn't see that. Especially since they have a Pocket 6K already that's Super 35mm Sensor Size.

Now, if Blackmagic does do Full Frame it would be clear that they put a lot of work in and Hook has stated that QC on Full Frame is a challenge. He's made statements about the challenges for them... and, this tells me that if they successfully release a Full Frame camera tomorrow then we all need to congratulate the team on a fantastic job. They deserve immense praise.

Obviously the Firmware Updates are a guarantee. Camera wise we'll see. I have a feeling there might be something new tomorrow. But above all else it's going to be a restless night and waking hours waiting to hear. I have to pack for my out of state gig that I leave for on Saturday. So at least I have that to tide me over. Plus a feature I'm color grading I am still waiting on the hard drive to be brought over. So I've got a lot of things keeping me awake and antsy.

How about being able to turn off noise reduction in camera? That might be nice. Or atleast be able to choose Full, Half, Off. Full is the current strength today.

There’s no noise reduction in camera.

There is filtering, which is like noise reduction, but it’s intrinsic to the way the BRAW codec works. Unlikely to be able to modify that.

If I owned a company like BMD, and I have to stir up my clientele base with some exciting news; what would I do.

First off, I would acknowledge the fact that we are in a trying period with the Covid-19. Sales may have gone down across the board, so it will be ultimately crazy to deliver a brand new camera. Whoever in my team that suggested that idea should be lined up and whipped. That'll leaves me with accessories and updates. But since the announcement is on "new developments in cameras", I'll focus on cameras.

BMMCC did well, so no updates.
BMPCC 4K - little firmware enhancements here and there to make the fan base happy, probably support
for higher frame rates,nothing major.
BMPCC 6K - aaha! A lot of mixed feelings about this camera. Designing a new TRUE FULL FRAME sensor
will make an already perfect camera obsolete - considering how new it still is. I'd rather add the
option of different mounts; especially m43 and PL. The former will actually make my clients
think I'm designing a new camera. Will also decrease the Q0 and 3.1 recording formats to allow
for recording on current available media without dropping frames.
UM 4.6K (original) - No braw. Too old.
G-Series - Nada

So there!

Really good AF is important to me like what Canon is doing. Not so long ago and maybe still people have scoffed on AF in videography use but it has gotten better, much better now. For a one man band and gimbal operator good AF has become a necessity.

The event to showcase the BMPCC4k was held in his hometown of Manchester at his local pub literary around the corner from were he lives. His arch nemesis Cinema5D was invited along with bloggers from far away as Italy. BMD Europe headquarter is based in nearby Knutsford in Chester. I think someone succeeded to rub him up the wrong way to cause a meltdown

I'm good with anything and everything except an 8K announcement. I don't need no stinkin' 8K camera.
BMPCC 4/6K and URSA MP G2 firmware upgrades and Resolve 7 will even be sufficient this year.

EDIT: Oh, and a $195 BMD USB webcam camera for those poor souls who has been asking for a webcam feature on the BMPCC4K. This will give them joy for their work at home experience, an alternative to their El Gato, and most importantly will not bastardize the Pocket "Cinema" Camera product line. :)

I hope, there will be a new 6K camera with a much more compact form factor....Red Komodo, Kinefinity Mavo edge and Z-Cam E2 are the new line to compete with!...

Why would any poor souls want to pay $195 for a webcam when it can be implemented on a better camera for free. That is the whole point why many people here requested it on existing BMD cameras. $195 I can just buy an Elgato

That was my thought too.

Box form
4K/6K S35
ND Filter (or at least IR CUT)
NP-F Battery Mount
IBIS would be wonderful

Remember the times when you had to wait weeks for a magazine to be printed each month to get what's been released by a camera manufacturer?

Today we can watch the happy CEO of Blackmagic Design presenting us what he and his team have been working on for the last year. I really started to enjoy his shows because you can feel his excitement and commitment to engineering and at the same time being down to earth.
Saying "Thx for help!" is not a crime.

Why cant John Brawley or Captain Hook do one of those camera announcement live stream presentation instead of the CEO for a change?

Blackmagic will have to eventually deal with the competition and "steal" some features from the Red Komodo, Zcam e2, even Canon R5 and Sony a7sIII, but I expect they will make at least one major camera-hardware announcement today.

Maybe a new pocket also? I only say that because the pocket 6k dropped in price. I have no idea what it'll be if there is one though.

!

Price point guess?

Perhaps a "BMPCC6K G2"with flip screen, and same sized sensor but with M43 lens mount, 8-axis IBIS, phase detect autofocus added to contrast detect; telemetry data capture for post plus a BMPCC8K full frame with the aforementioned features.

Pretty ready to buy this new camera if it ticks most of the rumored boxes. Since I've never bought a camera on day one before from Blackmagic, I've wondering what the best (EU) retailers are to pre-order from? Like I know the largest ones get stock first, but might also have a long waitlist..

Gah!
Let’s keep the speculations going, cause I have sold off a ton of old gear to pay for.... something.
I was waiting on a lens purchase, but if it’s a new camera with all the right specs... I’ve got the funds!

Exactly. His demos, with the twitchy shoulders while showing off the new 'wares are quite cool.
