Da Vinci Resolve 16 won't open - Windows 10 x64

PostTue Sep 01, 2020 7:34 pm

I keep getting an error that says "this application failed to start because it could not find or load the Qt platform plugin 'windows'.
Available platform plugins are: windows."

I've tried reinstalling 5 times, re-downloading the program, nothing helps. Has anyone else had this problem?

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

I've never seen that.

Couple things to check.

1. You downloaded Resolve from BMD's web site?
2. This is a clean, dedicated editing system? No games, email, office, third-party security, etc?
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

In a File Explorer window, go to:

C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve

and run CaptureLogs

This will place a Resolve log file named similar to this on your Windows desktop: DaVinci-Resolve-logs-20181228_140434.zip (You may not see the .zip extension if your system is set to hide known extensions).

Then open Windows System Information and do a File - Save (Not a File Export), which will generate a .NFO file.

Place both those files on a file sharing site and provide links to the files here.

If you are a new Forum user, you may not be allowed to post URLs. If this happens, just put a space near the front of the URL, so the system doesn't think it's a URL.

Hi, someone on Reddit helped me out with this, the issue was that I had to delete the BlackMagic folder in Programs or AppData, can't remember which. After doing that I reinstalled and now it works

I do actually have the same issue. Can you provide some detailed info of how about you solved the problem?
