BMCC with external recorder

PostMon Aug 05, 2013 6:26 pm

Has anyone hooked up any external recorders (gemini, samurai etc) to BMCC? If you did that and you had dropped frames internally, was the footage on external recorder still ok? Just thinking would be good to have instant backup incase there's dropped frames or something else goes wrong with the internal disk.... or just to use the external recorder's footage as proxy when shooting RAW internally.

Others have reported working this way with the BMCC and an external HD-SDI recorder. I haven't heard of issues with this approach.

The cam's HD-SDI output is constant, independent of what's being recorded internally. So, if an in-cam SSD drops a frame during recording, it shouldn't affect the cam's live output.

Also, the camera outputs control codes to start/stop the external HD-SDI recording.
