Fusion Studio 17 does indeed work with activation keys now (see the release notes). I'm running it right now on a laptop without the dongle. I guess they just haven't updated that part of the website, it's the same wording they've always used.

B&H is live with this offer.

I just ordered my Resolve Studio 17 activation card for $295. While it’s not yet in stock, I be receiving the Resolve Speed Editor for $0!!

Hey folks...this is a steal. Thanks Black Magic, & B&H!

Seriously ? You are not offered a discount for any of the other BMD panels either, and the only reason that you are bleating on here now is that they have put up an introductory offer to include the panel free for new DVR users. Did you complain when they introduced the other panels with no discount ?

Me too. Very much looking forward to giving the cut page a real test using this device. The full keyboard was too expensive for me to justify, but this is an extraordinarily good deal IMO. I already have a DR studio license, but I (or someone I know) can use another. THANKS BM!

PS The effort that has gone into the DR17 beta is quite phenomenal - good job!

Other way around: add the Resolve Studio 17 card to your cart and the Speed Editor should automatically be included as AlanKafton mentioned and Kyzzod showed in his screenshot.

I just tried this with B&H - selected the dongle version of Resolve Studio 17 and in the cart I see the Speed Editor @ $0 included (although it shows not yet shipping when I checked).

I was interested to see if the dongle version also had this limited-time offer... I won't order this until the Speed Editor is actually shipping but this is very cool.

Current owners of key or dongle, buy the bundle now. When the free Speed Editor promotion is over, sell your extra key/dongle. You just got a Speed Editor for the difference.

I guess my question is if the activation key for new licenses of 17 are backwards compatible with the activation for Resolve 16?

I bought the 17 Studio + Speed Editor deal sight unseen, but I don't anticipate actually using 17 for real paying work until the first couple of release versions have been out.

Any word on when the speed editor keyboards will ship?

PostMon Nov 16, 2020 8:32 pm

I have a preorder with BH the first day they went up. I am curious if anyone had theirs shipped yet or if a ship date is announced somewhere as mine shows backorder and I can't find any info on when it will ship.

Thanks!

B&H has already listed the Speed Editor as a bestseller from day one. That could mean a long wait. But I hope not. Waited about 3 months for my p4k.

How many will be produced? Just curious.

PostThu Nov 19, 2020 12:46 pm

Just curious but does anyone know what sort of demand there would be for a product like this from Blackmagic? Will they make 1,000 of these for an initial run or more like 100,000? Like I said just curious.

If anyone has a clue or can point me in the right direction let me know.

It should be a lot more just considering the free DR studio offer. It could be 10s of thousands. After more than two years the p4k is still a best-seller at BH and I read somewhere that back then that BMD p4k was being produced at about 1k cameras per week so just add the weeks.

The Speed editor is already a best seller.

Just the hardware? That seems an awful lot for some plastic. Albeit good quality and durable.

But of course research and development and the software integration must have cost them upfront.

A lot of the space shuttle was plastic....
In many cases plastic is more appropriate than metal.

Well, they don't fly them any more …

But if the Speed Editor is similar to the Editor's Keyboard they are very well made.

Any more? The offer is free keyboard with DVR 17 but DVR Studio 17hasn't shipped (only the beta). I have placed an order for DVR Studio 17 + free keyboard. This is an activation key that will work, I assume, with DVR Studio 16 and 17. the supplier is waiting for the Keyboards to arrive in 2-10 weeks depending on where in the world you are, who the supplier is and who you ask!

However being perverse it occurs to me that they could actually hold the keyboard and activation key until DVR 17 Studio is available as a saleable item. Not a beta........

Stranger things have happened this year :-)

Of course, they do. Can't I make a little joke?

Back to the original subject: I tested the Editor's Keyboard a while ago. While there was one detail I didn't like (aside from the price), it is really built to last and I doubt that BM made a new construction for the Speed Editor. They probably just left the regular keyboard out.

I would agree that the guts of it are probably identical, particularity the keyboard switches and rotary switch. I would expect the electronics would also be mostly the same. It makes sense for economies of scale. Given the size of market for the speed editor compared to the full keyboard the former will be subsidising the latter.

It will be a different PCB but I think that would be to the same standard as big Editors Keyboard.

That the case is plastic is not a problem to me and I suspect it is just as durable as a metal one. "plastic" does not mean quite the same thing it did 50 years ago.

I just got my activation card from B&H (got it within 5 days or ordering, and I'm in Hawaii!), and can confirm that this is the case. They send you the activation card in Resolve 16 packaging, so it works for 16 Studio as well at the 17 Studio beta.

It's really annoying that this has happened. Everyone understands that this sort of thing happens but I'm much more interested in upgrading to studio than I am getting the controller. But when I ordered from B&H they told me two things after I ordered and asked them to split the order. No, they won't split the order and no I can't cancel my order. After 8 weeks they finally let me cancel my order but still wouldn't split the order. So I cancelled.

This is stupid, The upgrade is $295 and the controller is free. The upgrade is available immediately and they can give me the "Gift" when its in stock. What's the big deal? Now I have neither. I'm pretty sure the intention of this promotion was to incentivize people to use the cut page and purchase studio. When I asked BMD about it they said the decision to split is up to the resellers, the three resellers that I asked said that it was BMD that said no?

DaVinci Resolve Speed Editor Availability. Due to limited availability of a button part, we haven’t been able to build as many Speed Editors as customers have ordered. We are building more each week, and we are trying to catch up as quickly as we can. We apologize for the delay."

It might have been an item on their twitter but you would have thought that they would have posted it on the threads about the Speed Editor on their own support forum!!!! Most of their users will be using this forum not Twitter.

It is just the chaos caused by COVID, you know that world wide Pandemic. It has disrupted manufacturing and supply chains. This is the supply chains to the manufacturer and the supply chains from the maufacturer to the distributors globally.

Then there is the complete **** up of the BMD marketing with neither left hand talking to the other never mind realising there might be a right hand as well...

I did order from sharbor.com in March 3rd 2021 and I received my order Today. They send me Studio 16 with speed editor. I used the code on Studio 17 and it works fine. They have plenty in stock.

Okay now BMD, it’s been a long time your big resellers have been out of stock on the speed editor DR17 promo combo. So when can we expect to have them in full stock, another year?

Be fair... COVID has caused huge problems in many supply chains and production plants. It's all been quite random and disruptive even for well established production systems. EG the automotive industry.
Also there was a huge instant demand for the speed Editor.

Though BMD didn't help the special deal was announced without getting stocks in first or even mentioning it to all the distributors and suppliers in advance. That was a mess of their own making.

COVID will be going on for another year. Some countries will have it under control and most of the population vaccinated by the end of the summer, others not until summer 2022 after the winter spike. So the world and supply chains won't be normal for another 12 months.

I just got another email from B&H stating that they still do not have this in stock and no idea when they’ll get it. I have set an alert for them to notify once a month. We’re entering April now.
