IKAN adapter plate 12v battery question

I need to sort out a cheap and lightweight battery solution.

V-mount is not suitable for me (too heavy for handheld work)

I've been looking at the Ikan battery adapters that convert 7.4v to 12v but have heard of people
having problems powering their BMCC's?

However, Ikan also do an adapter version for BPU style batteries.

Am I right in saying that BPU batteries are already
12v so it should work?

Are there any cheaper non-Sony alternatives to the BPU60 that would be compatible with the Ikan adapter?

hi this is the one i am using. though i recently have a total camera shutdown for 30minutes, i cant however make a sure guess that this power adaptor is the culprit.

i was having a same day edit wedding coverage saturday april 13, and while i am shooting straight while the bride preparation my BMCC EF suddenly shutdown. while i notice that my canon lp e6 totaly drain out then the camera shutdown, i charge it outright from the BMCC charger but then the camera didnt turn on until 30minutes or more.

2 things i was thinking happened. first, there might be an auto shut off mechanism when the BMCC is in overheating level in the processor (not sure with this because BMCC havent confirm this yet) and second is that BMCC when totally drained out doesnt power on immediately until it is charged in the status that it can be power on (like an iphone when it is totally drained out, you need to wait 10-15minutes before in can turn on).

anyways hopefully it wont happened again coz i almost panicked as that time my back up camera 5d mk3 was with my partner shooter and he was with the groom miles away lol.

I could be wrong but it sounds like the 7.4V battery isn't enough to kickstart the BMCC to boot up?

This is why I was thinking the 12v IKAN / BPU battery combination may be a solution ...

Can anyone share their thoughts as to whether this would work?

Hi, I have the Ikan plate...indeed I have two. one doesn't play while the other yes. I hope Ikan change me shortly but they don't answer my mail.
However the adapter play very well but with SONY NP-F970. I don't like the plug power adaptor. Simply it's a shame. you pay bucks for this plastic plate and don't get a perfect plug to power the camera. I wonder how it's not possible to change the cable and get a original plug 2.5mm. It's a shame. and you risk to damage the camera as well. because the plug is much tall.
So, the Sony battery 15euro in europe power very well, and (1) battery is enought for 3h and more.
Make a calculation of ahpere to min. But I personally can say It's a cheaper way to power the camera, and lightweight.
I don't recommend the Canon LP_e6 for this camera. too much lower power. 30' it's just enought for this kind of battery.

You've bought a battery plate that is not intended for use with the BMCC, it's main use is for their 7" field monitors so of course the connector isn't appropriate.

You'll need to adapt the connector to a larger than 2.5mm input, 2.5mm doesn't fit.

DO NOT use LP-E6 batteries to power your camera, it just isn't a good option.
