Fusion not adding elements to correct clip

PostWed Dec 02, 2020 5:55 pm

I am trying to add colored rectangles to highlight portions of a software to different clips. On clip 1, I click the clip in the timeline. It has a red outline. I click Fusion. I add Rectangle, Background, Merge, size and color my rectangle. Back in the Edit page, the effect is there as I would expect.

I click on Clip 2. it has a red outline. I click Fusion. I see Median 1 and MediaOut1 as I'd expect. I click add rectangle. nothing happens. If I go back to clip 1, I see it's added the rectangle to that clip instead. I cannot get it to add anything to Clip 2, not matter how I try and select the clip in the timeline.

Here's a video to show:

When you switch to the second clip, make sure you either click in a blank area of the Node Editor or on one of the nodes before trying to add a new node. That should help with the problem.

Clip selection isn't relevant here. Fusion will always open on the topmost visible clip under the playhead, so make sure you're parked on that clip before moving to Fusion.

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

As Jim Simon said, when you go to the Fusion page by clicking on the tab, it automatically chooses whichever clip is in the highest video track at the playhead.

If you can't move the playhead to a location where the clip you want is topmost, you can also right-click on the clip you want to bring into Fusion and select "Open in Fusion Page" about halfway down the long pop-up menu. (At least in v17 beta it's there.)

Or you can disable any higher-level tracks temporarily. The Fusion tab route uses the clip under the playhead on the highest enabled track ignoring disabled tracks. (And I assume it also ignores disabled clips, too.)

It does seem to be relevant with 17, since if you make changes on the Fusion page to one clip, then right-click on a second clip and choose "Open in Fusion" but don't click on a node or a blank space in the Node Editor, if you click on any node to add it, it will be added to the previous clip. I tried it last night and twice today and it happened each time, regardless of where the Playhead is or if you use "Open in Fusion".

In the pictures below, I first selected the first clip and right-clicked and selected "Open in Fusion". I then added a Text+ node. I then switched back to the Edit Page, selected the second clip, right-clicked and chose "Open in Fusion". I then, without clicking on anything in the Node Editor, clicked on the Background Node from the toolbar and it wasn't added to the second clip, but to the previous clip's Fusion flow.

Thanks for the responses. You can see in the video I posted that the playhead is always over the clip I want to edit, but it still applies the nodes to the older clip. So it's not a matter of the playhead being in the wrong place or Resolve choosing the highest clip in the stack. That's the clip I'm trying to edit and Resolve applies the node to a clip where the playhead ISN'T parked instead.

Looks like Xunile is replicating the issue. I'll try clicking on a node before I add a new one.

That is sounding like a bug, Eric. I would not expect that behavior.

This bug is still persistent now, Fusion opens the correct clip (whatever the playhead is over)
But unless you physically click on one of the nodes, it will add effects or masks over the top of the previously opened fusion clip rather than the actual one that is open
