Best B Cam for BMCC

Does anyone use a B cam with their BMCC? If, so what camera? I have a 60D and I am curious how we it will hold up as a B camera to the BMCC? Does anyone have experience with this? Thanks.

Well the perfect B camera would be the pocket camera. Though DSLR's work perfectly fine too. I've been doing multi camera shoots with both the BMCC and 2 600D's for a few months now, and it's always been easy enough to make them match. You just need a few tweaks in the colour correction.

The Pocket is the obvious one, but if your on an EF camera then you may be jumping between EF and m4/3 lenses which may be a hassle and an extra cost to consider unless of course you use an adapter. But the less obvious for some people might just to get another BMCC, at $2000 it's not as stupid as it sounds.

Your making a big jump between many DSLRs and the BMCC, it would be a miracle if you can get the footage not looking so different it's jarring. For some Doc work etc a different look can be got away with, usually not so for narrative.

Absolute nobrainer - I can get 3 BMCs for the same price I payed for one FS100.

Can anyone confirm if the BMPCC being an active mount will support IS? I heard that most M43 lenses require an internal camera function to turn this on, but the BMPCC at the moment doesn't have this--maybe a firmware update will supply this?

The BMPCC pocket cam definitely "supports" lenses that have built-in IS.

Unfortunately, BMD camera firmware (as currently described by BMD) does not include a menu item to turn IS off. It also doesn't include a menu item to select IS modes a lens might offer. This is not generally an issue when shooting hand-held, but can be a problem when the camera is on a tripod. And of course, it's also not an issue if a lens has a physical IS on/off switch.

If you are using the EF mount, get a second one. Think how much you'll save on accessories, and lenses! The B-camera almost never has the same lens as the 'a' camera. The pocket camera needs different lenses if you're shooting EF- but if you're shooting MFT, then the pocket camera makes sense. But... how long will you wait to buy one? BMCCs are literally on the shelf right now - I can pick one up on the way to a shoot if I need to!

I'm actually anxious for the 4k - not for the 4k, mind you, but for the larger sensor, so our wide lenses will actually be wide! That and 'global shutter.' I suspect it will be harder to match to the BMCC than the pocket camera will be, since it's rumored to be a different sensor manufacturer.- but that's a different thread.

Our BMCC will be demoted to 'b' camera once the production camera ships - though, if I needed it for even one or two jobs, I wouldn't hesitate to add a second BMCC EF to our toolkit.

You can get an EF->MFT adapter and use the same lenses.

I would think the perfect B-cam would fill in the gaps of the BMCCs weaknesses. I would choose a camera you can cut between and offers 60p like the GH3. If you dont care about slomo, then the pocket camera at $1k is easy. If you are like me and have mostly EF lenses (I work in the stills world, too), then like some others have said a second BMCC would be really good with the price reduction.

I know, that's what I said. I hope you mean using an adapter to put EF lenses on a MFT mount cause it won't work the other way around.

Once I've sold my GH2's, I'll get a GH3. Having 1080 60p will supplement my BMCCMFT nicely.

A lotta people giving no love to the DSLR's but the GH3 has the 60fps and is also a fantastic stills camera. With lens compatibility across the board, I will definitely do RAW timelapse on the GH3.

Yes but B cam means different things to different people, the GH3 is a decent option if you want to get some slow-mo shots but if you are cutting often between BM cameras and the GH3 in one scene for example it's going to look crap.
