Getting Speed Editor working in Bluetooth

PostThu Dec 10, 2020 6:12 am

So, I finally got my USB-C cable from Amazon and I have it working now, however I can't seem to get it working in Bluetooth. When I open my Bluetooth manager in Mac OS it can't seem to find the Speed Editor. Is there a minimum battery charge required? Do I have to unplug the cable first before it exposes Bluetooth to my MacBook? It came with 0% charge.

Charge fully using your phone charger, later connect with usb cable and check the battery level, disconnect and add console in bluetooth preferences.

In my experience, it doesn't show up in the Bluetooth manager until one launches Resolve.

I got it working, thanks everyone. As soon as I disconnected the USB cable it showed up in my Bluetooth console.

Mine is not showing at all.

Any clues.

I ran with the cable from new but now want the BT connection.

What have I done wrong?

1. Yes, I suspect a lot/all of these issues are due to the users BlueTooth. After I got a decent BT5 USB dongle and made sure it has clear line-of-sight, all my issues went away. (I used a USB extension cable as well to get the dongle out in the open & stashed in a corner). (See next issue in the next paragraph).

2. Another BIG issue was having a 2.4ghz wireless mouse going as well (The type of mouse that comes with it's own USB receiver). The 2.4ghz was interfering with the BT signal bigtime. I swapped that out for a Bluetooth mouse and ALL wireless connections in my office became way more solid.

The BT on the Speed Editor is excellent. If you're having issues it's very likely due to one, or both, of the above

Thanks Rick,

I could easily have problems with both your points.

For the moment I will simply go back to a wired connection into a USB.

Too many other challenges to want to waste time on this one.

I too got a USB dongle. Also I find that touching a few keys on the Speed Editor before loading Resolve makes the link fast as soon as Resolve loads.

What I found Ron is that as soon as I disconnect the wired USB link the SE locks up.

Two buttons have red lights on them and no amount of button pushing makes them change.

I even wondered if there was a 'reset' I could push with a pin to force it to reboot - but I can't see one.

Yes two red lights are correct when starting up. I would disconnect the USB cable when PC is off. Then power up PC, touch a few buttons on the Speed Editor ( nothing will happen ) then load Resolve. In my case the two red buttons will then light up on the Speed Editor and it will work in the CUT page. I think touching the buttons when PC is on before loading Resolve establishes the Bluetooth link before Resolve is loaded. Red lights coming on confirms link.

If you do need to reset it you can do so with the DaVinci Control Panels application that is installed with Resolve 17. Connect via USB and start the application.

Thanks Ron,

Gave your method a try. No success.

Two red lights, you say, establish contact.

No red lights, in my case, establish total lack of it.

I'll resort to my nice bit of wire whilst the gurus pull their hair out....

Tony

And, yes Roger I saw that reset. Thanks.

Initially I had problems because the onboard WiFi was still active and not very good link. I disabled that and installed the USB dongle. It has a nice little light on it when active and i know that if the USB is not active it will not work. That is when I found out about just touching a few keys when I initially start up the PC to make that link ( light comes on USB dongle ) I know then that when I load resolve the Speed Editor will light its two red lights and be active. I would try a few times before giving up as I think it took a few goes before I got the sequence down. It works every time now.

Look at that other thread I mentioned yesterday.

"Peter Chamberlain, Blackmagic Design

The speed editor requires Bluetooth BLE, can u confirm your system uses this Bluetooth format"

I have just bought one of these and for the first time (ever) my Speed Editor is working on Bluetooth.

I just got mine working on windows 10 today
Did the following, not sure which was the important step(s) :
- Speed editor connected via usb
- Switched my logitech mouse from logitech universal dongle to bluetooth
- Removed speed editor from Other devices in Bluetooth & other devices settings page
- Opened Resolve
- Removed speed editor from usb
- Clicked Add Bluetooth or other device
- Speed editor was detected as Davinci keyboard but not functioning in Resolve
- Rebooted
- Speed editor worked as expected in Resolve

Not 100% sure about the order, but this is as much info as I am able to share.
Hope this helps somebody.

If you're reading this BMD, your setup experience needs work on Windows.
At least provide a tried and tested sequence of steps (and an easy way to find it).

Ciao, Patrick
