BMPCC - anything else besides "no raw"?

PostThu Aug 22, 2013 11:30 pm

I am trying to put together as much relevant information as possible about the Pocket Camera, and what the differences are between manufacturer specs and actual camera. One of them is no raw recording capability at the moment. The other ones are actually perks that John Brawley listed:
John Brawley wrote:Auto Focus.
Interval Recording.
Fat Formatting.
Battery % in single percent increments.
IS

Are all unannounced new features that have been added since launch.

jb
Is there anything else to be aware of?

Thanks!

The RAW question was addressed in this thread just for clarification.

Thanks Tony. What would be your recommendation, on how to mention this on a product listing on my site? (Can't not mention this since it's a significant difference with the specs.)

Something like, "raw recording capability is not yet available but will become available with a future firmware update"?

With all due respect, your clarification of the RAW question is that you did not have any information.

Magic:
My information from that thread was that there is a planned release for the RAW feature to be added but that I did not have a ETA for when that would be. When that information does become available, we will be making an announcement on the forums. I know that's not anything exact other than saying there will be but that's all the details I have to share at this time.

I would assume raw would become available in the same time table as the battery % and remaining disk time has been addressed.

At his price point you have to give somethings up, or at least be able to deal with the fact that things may not come quickly

RAW should be removed from specs at this point though

Alex:

Your request is fine so long as it's stated that there is no ETA on when that firmware update will be.

Well, since you are one of the few who actually have a camera in their hands, you would probably be the best to list what has or has not been delivered.

The camera is shipping so it's hardly vaporware.

They've announced compressed RAW. Compressed RAW is a new spec that no DNG camera has done yet. The spec exists but it's not implemented. It needs to be done right. You're frustrated because of BMDs long standing communications policy. After multiple threads I think we get it. You're not the first to vent and won't be the last. I doubt their policy will change. They have many good reasons for operating this way.

it should not be listed as a feature until it is, that is what I think everyone is complaining about. Still a good product for the price, I think if BM never listed raw as a feature they would have still had plenty of BO's
