Extremely slow shut down - 17.1 on Apple M1, Beta 9

PostFri Feb 19, 2021 1:44 am

I'm experiencing extremely long shut down times on Beta 9 on 17.1 running on Apple M1, typically around 1 minute and can go to 2 minutes.

Shut down defined as when the little dot under the Davinci icon on the dock finally disappears.

I've used all the 17.1 betas from Beta 1 to Beta 9, and this is the first time in Beta 9 that I've noticed such long shutdown times.

I've been running some Fusion compositions.

p/s I noticed a very long save-time, such that a message appeared saying it was saving. Usually, the save-time is so fast that this notification (that it is saving) isn't displayed for long, but this time it appeared for a long time. Then, after it finished saving, I wanted to quit, but the quit menu item was grayed out.

In the macOS dock, it did not give the message that "Application not responding", so it appeared normal. A few, long moments later, the Quit menu item stopped being grayed-out, and I was able to quit.

Attached is a log.

Version 17.1, beta 9

I haven't noticed this long save time, and long quit time in prior beta versions before this beta9.

I've no experience with Resolve on a Mac, but a minute or two to fully flush from memory is normal on Windows.

My issue is similar but the shutdown time is infinite. I have to force quit every single time. Letting it sit for hours or a full day and it never closes completely without the force quit from activity monitor.

Beta 8, shutdowns were normal experience, so it's definitely something introduced in Beta 9.

With 17.1 Beta 10, I can report that exiting the application is back to the full speed experience I was expecting. No longer the long wait at all.
