Resolve and Speed Editor availability

PostTue Feb 02, 2021 2:27 pm

Hello, I wonder whether I can get some update on Resolve and Speed Editor availability from Blackmagic, please. My order from 27.11.2020 is still on backorder and there is no estimated delivery date, like at all. I understand that there is problem with the buttons in the production, but Thomann said they can't guarantee it will be available for next 3 months. Please, I need some honest and true information, because this is becoming very sad, we need some USB dongles and preferably also the Speed Editor... Thank you for the information, any kind of information.

I agree. I, too, like many others are in the same situation and a new update would be nice with real date ranges for delivery, even if they're not what we want to hear as consumers. It would at least set an expectation. I think many of us were expecting them within a month or shortly thereafter when they were ordered back in November.

The sad thing is, the YouTubers (JayAre, Casey Faris, others) have had theirs long before Christmas which of course drove excitement and demand. As it stands, I can't get a serial number for the studio version so that I can download and use any studio beta version that I paid for last November (Paypal) to take advantage of the better features because apparently the serial cards are backordered indefinitely as well. This is in addition to the key sourcing issue for the Speed Editor.

With the great minds at BMD, you would think they could come up with a work around to at least get the serial numbers on cards out to users so we could use the software.

Same boat. I'm now told by B&H that they cannot ship my software dongle separately. I MUST wait until the Speed Editor is available. Then I ask if the dongle can be replaced with a download/serial card so I can at least have access to the fully functioning programme. I'm told no. They're, somehow, not available either. Really? Download/serial cards are not available? I'm not in the habit of giving interest-free loans to vendors. Time to ring up BMD. This is silly.

I'd prefer not to ask for a refund because Resolve is a superior product. I'm not sure what is worse at this point, waiting on vaporware from BlackMagic or going with Adobe and working with Premiere/After Effects even though it is expensive and prone to crashing. I've got a project that needs to get done. At least you can download a serial number and get going same day with Adobe.

Covid or no Covid, it's not that hard for BMD to communicate what is going on on a weekly basis until everyone gets their product. A great company is staining their reputation that will take a long time to repair if they don't get the communication going ASAP with their customers AND vendors.

I knew a company that specialized in vaporware (processor upgrades for Macs) back in the 1990s. They owned 90% of the processor upgrade market for years and were an awesome and very innovative company based in Wichita. They went under because they couldn't ship products--you might have heard of them, Newer Technology (MaxPowr G3/G4, RenderPIX, Bookendz, RAM, etc.). It took them 8 months to go from the top of their game to closing the doors. Sad story. I hope this doesn't happen to BMD.

I've ordered the Speed Editor bundle Mid December with an estimated delivery time of 7-8 weeks in Germany at Thomann. Mid January the time went up to 10-12 weeks. A couple of days later BMD informed it's customers via twitter and support site that due to delivery problems with a button part they have to delay deliveries further.
I've aksed Thomann if they could sent the license card in advance. They replied that they would like to do so it if they could get license cards. All other German retailers I've contacted state more or less the same - no license cards available and no estimated delivery date.
I totally understand the delivery problems of the speed editor but I'm really deeply disappointed that BMD isn't even able to send licenses cards to their resellers. Something as simple as a paper card should have been delivered within a couple of days or even hours and not months.

Amazon says they have 15 in stock. In the Q&A it says theirs comes with the dongle. I'd prefer the license key since I only use one computer.

14 Shown as in-stock now, BUT:
The "Seller" (SolidSignal) who answered the Q&As regarding the included dongle in that "Available from these sellers" Amazon listing is different from the seller (Focus Camera LLC) who claims to have inventory. It appears to be a common listing with multiple sub-sellers, so results are relatively unpredictable. And SolidSignal no longer appears in the available vendors, so I assume they're out of stock now.

That said, Focus Camera's listing is for the Speed Editor only at a gouge price of $306.93 (US) with a listed estimated delivery date of Feb 17-19. (I take that back - As I was typing this, Focus camera raised the price to $319.93 and launched a second listing for the same 14 units at $358.93!!)
They also have another listing for the bundle at a gouge price of $391.84 now, instead of the above mentioned $349. That bundle has no apparent ship date. Focus Camera appears to be playing BS games with constantly changing prices (they're still changing as I edit this...) making me wonder if they even have the SEs at all, or if they're pawning off possibly used units they/someone purchased earlier, reboxing and selling them now to make a quick buck on the situation. NFTY

AVL Gear (another seller on the same listing mentioned above with Focus Camera's original) had a gouge price of $490+ $25 shipping and a ship date of mid-to-late March (as if...)
So, maybe the results are more predictable - pay a much higher price to wait in line like everyone else... No thanks.

Add me to the list of very disappointed people with BMD's all but total lack of communication on this situation. As someone who already has Adobe Suite and an older version of Avid MC; I'm considering freeing my unit up and defecting from the ranks of Resolve overall due to this. Like many others here, I understand a supply or quality issue with the physical device being handled before being able to ship the SEs but I'd really at least like to get my 17 Studio code so that I can start using the full-featured (beta) version at a minimum...

If the plan is to wait until 17 goes GA to ship any of these; as long as it's historically taken BMD to move Resove/Fusion from Beta to GA - I'm out.
Cheers,
C

Hunter,

You made my weekend!! My speed editor arrived this afternoon along with a key for Resolve Studio 17 and Fusion Studio 17. Until I opened the shipping box and verified things, I didn't really believe that it was true after waiting almost 3 months but it is. Thanks again for the tip!!

Thanks Markertek for shipping things out on time earlier this week!

Hi jamesbaker and hansinla,

Happy for you both.

I am following my USPS shipment to Florida like a kid watching NORAD track Santa on Christmas Eve.

Mine arrives on Monday.

(Update: Mine arrived in Florida just fine from Markertek. Studio is terrific. Sister is sending Spee Editor to me in Panama.)

Cheers,

Hunter

Same here, waiting from Thomann for a dongle ... I don't mind if the Speed Editors takes a couple of month but given I'm hitting some limitations on the free version, I'd love to be able to enjoy the Studio version I paid for.

I waited for the key from December 4. Instead of working with the full version - which I paid for in early December 2020, I'm working with the free version. Sad that 21st century company can't send license key because it's waiting for button? The license is also made of special plastic made on Mars?

When will the product information appear? When can we expect something? spring? autumn?

Any information from BM?

Received a reply:

"We do not have direct lines to the resellers to know what orders they've placed as we have a distributor who takes care of that. You are welcome to order from any reseller you wish based on the availability and whatnot but know that units are shipping as quickly as possible into the channels."

Did not address prohibition of shipping dongle or serial card separate from speed editor.

Just gotta wait...

I'm in Canada and ordered my Speed Editor / Resolve combo from AVShop.ca on Jan 4. At the time they showed "not in stock - awaiting shipment" status, and I didn't receive the shipment until Jan 24. I see that their web site has now listed it as "In Stock" for the past several days, so I assume that they've caught up on the backlog of shipments.

I ordered from Adorama on Dec 5 and the item still remains on backorder. I understand the delays during the pandemic but I was frustrated because I didn't know if I was 10th in line to receive one or 500th in line. They would also not comment on if they had received any shipments of the product at all.

While waiting on Adorama, I watched Markertek show the Speed Editor with license key available several times and I actually chatted with them a few times to see if the item actually was in stock. They showed the item in stock on Feb 19 so I ordered for shipment on Monday. I chatted with them and they assured me the item would ship on Monday.

They still show the Speed Editor with activation key available on Feb 20.

I ordered my combo package from Core Micro last week, and after weather delays, it showed up yesterday. Included was the USB cable, and a separate package had the License Key.

I'm not sure how many they have left, but I had chatted with them prior to purchasing to ensure they had it - and it shipped out less than an hour after I placed the order.

I preorder mine from Adorama on November 11th, and after waiting for so long I decided to look somewhere else and found that proAVwarehouse have it in stock (US). I even call just to make sure they actually have in stock and not just the license (like some other distributors) and after confirmed, I ordered last Thursday (Feb 25th) and arrived today! (March 1).

Super happy with the fast shipment, although they sent me the version 16 license dongle (which you can upgrade for free), and immediately cancel my order from Adorama.

Here is the link if you want to order within the US
