beta 2 crashes on 12k files

I'm on a 2010 mac pro with a Radeon VII card and osx 10.15.4 resolve crashes when I i drag in the 12k sample files. Attached is the crash logs

How does this setup work with non beta? Stable? Did you have to modify the power supply?

Apparently I missed the OP's message. The CPU's in that Mac don't work with the current BRAW 2.0 code. Hopefully this will be improved.

With the understanding that you need TONS of RAM to work in anything DCI 4K or greater here is a thread that might help you specific to a 12K setup for Resolve:

@Robert: That's all good general info. But that not the issue here.

Older MacPro tower CPU's don't have the processor extensions needed to decode 12K BRAW. Systems with those older CPU's will just crash if you attempt to view or play a 12K BRAW file.

It MAY be possible that the BRAW decoding can be modified to support those older CPUs, but there is no guarantee that will be possible or will happen.

the problem is NOT the old xeon in a lagacy macpro

this is my main cMP 5,1 (2010) and this excellent player work well
with your 12k testfiles on this old maschine!

only your RAWplayer and resolve crashes with the 12k files

I'm glad your 3rd party player app works. Our decoder doesn't work due to the lack of currently supported extensions in your Xeon CPUs.

also UAUDIO has reprogrammed the necessity of AVX from their program LUNA in the last version
because a lot of studios still work with the old macpro and only switch to a newer one
when apple releases a macpro with M1(x)

I came across other related issues (not attributed to Resolve) that made me change my plan to "upgrade".
The original recent plan was to purchase the old MP tower (pre 2013) and bump it up with max RAM, big GPU and newer PCI-e based SSD RAID to be the primary edit station.

But with the advent of Big Sur and a few other not-so-well-known gotchas I'm actually dumping the tower I just bought and instead going with a max'd out, new iMac with 8-cores and max RAM (128GB).

Between issues with BRAW, ProRes RAW and any HDR workflow the older tower is finally outdated and unusable. It was gonna happen sooner or later...

The just released Resolve 17.1 version should allow MacPro 5,1 systems to now decode BRAW 12K files.

Don't dump the old workhorse yet! I would not invest a penny any more in an Intel machine for MacOS.
Rather keep it going with a supported Radeon GPU.
