Battery Mounts: V-Lock or Anton Bauer-Gold Mount

Getting ready to buy V-Lock batteries and just want to get some intput. I plan to power a BMCC and various other items on the rig. Then someone made a strong suggestion that I get a AB Gold Mount batteries and most manufacturers make them both ways. So-o-o-o....

What do you use and what are the pros and cons?

Not all battery mounting plates are created equal. I don't think it makes much difference if they're V-lock vs. gold-mount.

I've noticed that the "gold-mount/3-stud" battery plates made by Anton-Bauer seem to have a stronger, more positive latch, and better secure a battery, than the gold-mount/3-stud plates sold by Ikan. The Ikan is less-expensive, so maybe this isn't surprising.

I suspect other plates, whether V-lock or gold-mount, will follow a similar pattern. Some of the less-expensive knock-off versions may not be as well made (secure) as the ones made by some of the old-line manufacturers.

I know just as many shooters who use V-lock as use gold-mount plates and batteries, and the plates made by major manufacturers seem to be very solid & reliable. YMMV.

I use both, and never had any issues with either one. My Sony V mounts are larger amp bat. And work great. I have both older large AB "Brick" bat and the newer LiPro, which I prefer as it weighs less and is a little smaller.

So you're saying go with the big brands and stay away from the low priced stuff like most of the batteries from China. That the connecting points of the mounts themselves are not as well made. Particularly the V-mounts.

I've heard a few stories now of V-mounts slipping off at inconvenient times. Most of the time it caused temporary power interruption, two stories now of the battery falling completely off and not only freaking everyone on the set out, but causing minor damage. I was not there and wonder? Kind of makes me want 3-stud gear. On the other hand I hear V-mounts are available around the world and occasionally I do travel. But I think I'll have my power needs covered for my kit so this may not be so much a concern.
