Opening MAC files in Windows

PostMon Mar 08, 2021 5:32 pm

New user to the amazing program DaVinci Resolve. I was well along in a project in version 17 when I discovered that my MacBook Pro doesn't have enough video RAM. I can complete it on a (better equipped) Windows system and would like to ask for help. My understanding from the forums is that the Mac .drp file can be opened in Windows, but obviously there is some reference in that file to the media that have been included in it. The .drp file by itself is not big enough to contain the source media. How do I set up the media so that the file, opened in Windows, will "find" the media properly? In advance, thank you.

Copy your footage over to your Windows system, and relink it.

Kirk,

It may be worth looking at the DaVinci Resolve manual sections for Media Storage Mapping, and Collaboration. It is possible to access and edit the same project (or mimic that process by exchanging DRP file versions) between Windows Linux and Mac without changing the relative file mount paths each time you change machines.

Shared projects and collaboration are available in DaVinci Resolve (free) from version 17 onwards

Do note that
a. accessing the same Disk database when open on another system (say through a network mount or a file-sync likie DropBox) is prone to errors - so do remember to close the project if accessing elsewhere.
b. For shared projects and collaboration, you need the two (or more) systems to be on the same version of Resolve (even if on different OSes)

Regards
Shrinivas

Thanks for the replies. I figured it out before I got them, but of course appreciate you helping a newbie. I simply opened the DRP file on the Windows system, got the big media offline warning (in red, no less). I selected all of the missing media, right mouse clicked and linked them to the local files on the Windows system that I had migrated over from the Mac. More amazing DaVinci Resolve!
