Training video does not match my version

PostTue Mar 09, 2021 1:03 am

I am using the free version so I know I should not expect a lot of help but in the first training video (intended for new users), the application looks quite different from what I just installed (I have version 17). Is it because the training video is intended for another (older or paying) version?
The differences are quite substantial (I do not have a Finder, I only have one display window instead of two, etc...) which makes the video pretty useless.
Any help appreciated.

The videos and books were made using older versions.

I believe the new training materials are in the works.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

I believe that the "Finder" is a Mac thing, if you're using Windows then just mentally substitute "File Explorer" whenever they say "finder".

If you're on the Edit page and you're only seeing a single viewer, it's because you can configure that page to show one or two viewers. Use the menu path "Workspace > Reset UI Layout" to go back to the default layout with two viewers.

I'm using Resolve 17 and I'm going through the training videos and not had any problems following along even though there are some minor differences. Once you finish the basic stuff in the videos and have gotten the lay of the land you can explore the new features manual to see what some of the new functions can do.

They might look different but the basic principals remain the same. If you have the Inspector open you will only see one picture window. To switch between the Preview and Timeline windows use the Q key on your keyboard. You can also set it to only display one picture window all the time.

Also, some of the dividing lines between sections of the screen can be moved to create more or less space. If you hover the mouse curser over a line that can be moved it will change to this icon.

If you click on it and hold the mouse button down you will be able to move the divider.

A good way to find out what things do is to create a dummy project with maybe two video clips, and click on the various icons etc to see what they do.

In my pics ignore the green faders. That just means that they have automation enabled on them.

Didier, another thought comes to mind. If you have the Media Pool open, right click on it and you will get a menu. Select Import Media and your file browser(finder) will appear. You can import your folder into the bin or with individual clips they can be dragged directly into the Timeline. This is an alternative to using the Media page to import clips.
