Audio Metering Problem

PostFri Nov 27, 2020 12:34 am

I don't normally record audio into Resolve but did some testing to try to help a fellow poster. In 17.0b2 the input metering, in either Fixed Bus or Flex bus modes, does not work. I have tried it in all meter settings, and nothing. Playback metering is fine.
The audio records with no problem, but only appears as a waveform when you stop recording. It does not show whilst recording takes place.
Finally, an oddity that went away by itself. When playing a video clip with an audio track and a newly recorded track, muting the new audio track causes the clips' audio to start skipping. Un-mute the track and all is well. This seemed to clear itself. This only happened in the Cut and Edit pages and not the Fairlight page. Possibly a timing issue.

None of this manifested itself in 16.2.7. Clip used was MP4 50fps with timecode. All frame rates were checked and shown to be correct. All audio routing was correct as well. Audio interface was a Behringer 1204 USB mixer with its own driver which I have used before in Resolve.

I have not seen anyone else post this problem, so maybe I'm unique :D

Hello James.
I use a Behringer 1204fx usb mixer as an audio interface into Resolve sometimes, but it is certainly nowhere near the Allen and Heath in terms of quality. The plus point for me is that I have the proper driver for it. I only use it for adding guide audio to an edit. Finished soundtracks I do in Pro Tools.

I have had problems with the Flexbus audio routing. Not tested it in 17.1 but I cannot get audio into Resolve when a project uses it. No problem with Fixed Bus routing. It needs more investigation I think.

As to vst plug-ins in Fairlight I have a few and all work well except Eqivocate which can be temperamental at times.
