H.265 4:2:2 and 4:4:4 Intel encode support in 17.1 Studio

PostWed Mar 10, 2021 2:43 pm

I was hoping that this would include a CPU-based H.265 encoder but I'm guessing what this means is that for some Intel graphics subsystems it can perform an H.265 encoding - is that correct? I haven't tried this yet but I have an older laptop with both an nVidia M1000 and an Intel graphics subsystem - the nVidia does not support the functionality required for H.265 encode but perhaps the Intel will if Resolve can see them both. I'm not expecting it to be fast, just possible. My desktop with a P4000 will perform H.265 encoding at a very respectable rate (obviously nothing compared to today's GPUs, though).

Yes.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

I'm afraid it'll be for very recent or even future graphic subsystems by Intel, trying to compete with Apple's M1.
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.

Thanks guys - when I get a chance, I'll run a test on my laptop to see if it works - not holding my breath, lol. I use Shutter Encoder on my laptop if I need to transcode to H.265 via the CPU. It's very slow but if I'm traveling, it's my only solution (although I can probably also use my iPad if the source media is compatible h.264...

Just rambling...

Thanks again,

Steve

I was looking forward to h.265 support on Intel systems. Now that I have installed 17.1 final (free not studio) I can't find a h.265 option for delivering. My notebook has intel i7 1165 cpu with iris xe graphics. Does anyone know which Intel systems are supported exactly?

I'm afraid 265 encoding is a Studio feature.
