Exporting

Hello everyone. I have a quick question about exporting. Do I need to wait until everything is rendered before I can export the video or does it render while exporting also?
Cause some other (less nice programmes that names I won't mention) lose frames and/or quality if you don't wait until everything is fully rendered before the export.
