Power windows & clip/timeline scaling

PostSat Mar 13, 2021 9:32 pm

Window shapes no longer behave the way I expect them to, and I don't know how to revert back to older behavior.

When in "Clip" mode in the node viewer, I'd expect a Power Window to scale with the clips own edit/input settings. But when switching to Timeline mode, a Window would lock to the timeline's overall scale.

As an example, I could make a lens vignette as a timeline node, and it would affect all clips the same, regardless of their individual scaling.

At some point that changed. I don't remember when, but I suspect a new behavior or default setting in V17.

Now the timeline windows behave like clip windows; scaling uniquely with each clips own sizing settings.

While their is a use-case argument for this new way, I really need to be able to apply old way. There's not a substitute for it.

Thanks for reading,
Blase

I can't duplicate this in Studio 17.1 for Windows. The Vignette OFX applied to a timeline node is unaffected by Edit, Input or Node Sizing.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Sorry I was referring to Power Window shapes. Not OFX. I just used the vignette (via a window) as an example.

I'm also on 17.1

Got it.

I'm still unable to duplicate, though. The Power Window doesn't change.

Regarding Timeline mode:
I now see its just the UI shape-outline that behaves differently. Not the final rendered result. See example attached.

Regarding Post-Clip Group mode:
Busy season has wiped my memory. But I remember post-clip groups applied after the clip's edit scaling. No?
If I imagined this, then it was out of wishful thinking I guess.

Attached Example project has 2 shots of different scalings, with the same group and timeline node applied. There's a "timeline" blue oval node, and a "post-Group" green square node.

Blase, Jim

Could you share a DRP for a test project that shows this issue? The media isn't necessary.

Thanks

Sure, here you go.

A similar issue happens when the media is in "Use Remote Grades".
The shape, and (for example) what's being tracked are similarly disconnected.

Again, strictly speaking, there isn't a problem. It renders fine. Its just confusing at first, until you realize you should be ignoring the shape mask.

I always had this problem in Split Screen mode.... Windows don´t scale down when you compare two or more clips on the screen.

Steps to Reproduce

1. Add a Timeline Node.
2. Add a Power Window.
3. Make a drastic, obvious change. Reduce softness of the window to have clear edges.
4. Move back to Clip Nodes.
5. Change Edit Sizing.
6. Move back to Timeline Nodes and turn on the Power Window in the Viewer.
