2 inputs on MacBookPro? Resolume/GoPro3/C300

PostMon Aug 26, 2013 12:40 pm

Hi.

Here is my challenge for the coming week that I set myself to do for a live jazz concert:
Image

Check out my latency/delay tests in Resolume with Blackmagic stuff here:

Basically, these are the issues I'm struggling with:
- I want a multi-cam fullHD recording of the show PLUS do real-time video-processing with the same sources (C300/GoPro3) for stage projection in 720P50
- I need least equipment/converters as possible, priority is least delay/latency, because I'm projecting live on a big projection screen behind the musicians
- 4x C300 give 1080 HD-SDI output, but the GoPros3 give 720P50 ... what options do I have to work with those signals in ATEM1? Or is are converters my best bet?
- the rMBP15" has 2x Thunderbolt & 2x USB3. What options do I have to get 2 inputs? (e.g. do the Intensity-USB3 work together with MiniRecorder-Thunderbolt on one mac (in Resolume)?)
- Any input video needs to be 720P50, because 1080 will slow my system down dramatically I tested.

2 inputs to rMBP15" challenge;
Can I have 2x UltraStudioMiniRecorders HDMI input to my 2x Thunderbolt ports (into 2 different sources in Resolume)? And run the HDMI output of the rMBP15" to the projector (from Resolume)?

OR I was thinking as an alternative to have the MBP15" send out a HDMI to rMBP15" (through the Intensity Shuttle with new beta drivers for mac) and work with the SD-SDI conversion from the ATEM1 as my multi-cam input, through some cheap USB-composite input device (this way I might have Resolume run faster also, in stead of having to work with 2 HD inputs... and muli-cam input might work for me in lower-res SD, because I will project the video to the screen at great distance)?

Would love to get some feedback.
thnx for your attention

Everything would work but the USB3. Avoid that thing like the plague! I have an Asus G55-vw with thunderbolt and usb3, TB works awesome, USB never works. BM only has a beta driver for Mac usb3, maybe they will step it up on the USB3 drivers, but right now they work on random laptops no one can really confirm. It's hell. The new MBpro does have 2 TB ports & hdmi now though, could do something there maybe..

Nice project.
Im using the 2 GoPros 3 (one white and one black) lately with ATEMS sending 1080p25 and receiving 1080i50, try upgrade the last firmware, it should now work.

Its not a nice combination using GoPros together with C3 due to the horrible quality of the GoPRos is very noticeable, but if you are using Resolume to artefact those than it shouldn't be a problem.

You will always have allot of frame delay in this setup. by passing trough the Macbook

Probably you are loosing 1 or 2 frames in the ATEM, 1 in the BM crossover, 1 in the ultra studio and some in the Macbook, than again more in the Atomos.
I think you will at least have 5 or 6 frame loss.

Can I have 2x UltraStudioMiniRecorders HDMI input to my 2x Thunderbolt ports (into 2 different sources in Resolume)? And run the HDMI output of the rMBP15" to the projector (from Resolume)?

Yes.

Like the previous poster, I don't advise you to use this device with the Beta driver. I made some events using 3 blackmagic devices 2 under Thunder and 1 under USB3 using that Beta driver in the Shuttle, but ruined into sometimes freezing or the Shuttle or the other decoders. it might be a question of luck and of the computer setup.

Might be faster if you use the composite signal for this purpose and less stress on your rMBP , you already stressing a bit its capabilities, it will do it but its a bit of delicate thing to trust it, environment heat, voltage fluctuation and other problems..
