"Media Offline" for Fusion clips

PostThu Mar 18, 2021 3:48 pm

There are a number of "Media Offline" related issues on this forum but I could not find one that was clearly related to Fusion cached files.

The gist is that optimized Fusion clips show "Media Offline". When cached files are invalidated by changing a setting, the clip renders properly, up until a segment is optimized.

I have a screen recording of this problem but the Forum is carefully designed to prevent sharing of that information (no URLs and not mp4 uploads). I'm happy to provide links to an online recording if anyone wants to see this behavior.

I tailed ResolveDebug.txt while the clip was being optimized (as each segment is optimized, that segment shows "Media Offline") and these are the logs generated:

Code: Select all
0x7f619ccbb700 | IO                   | ERROR | 2021-03-18 10:22:50,108 | Failed to read frame frame from video frame </home/garrett/CacheClip/b6be1b21-dc46-4987-957d-8cf8d186675f/d325983b-afd7-4320-8bb6-e424128ecc44/d1c469e4-965b-4591-b851-14eaa7cddbe7/3a2600a9-59fd-4a79-86b5-ac8052124fe4/SourceOne/0000000063.dvcc>, error: <File does not exist, or file format is not recognizable.>

There are several such entries.

The files exist but are empty (length 0). I don't have any other error logs or information leading up to these.

The header for ResolveDebug.txt:

Re: "Media Offline" for Fusion clips

This happened to me today (17.1 latest, Apple M1).

In the timeline I have a video clip and a Fusion composition. It was halfway through rendering the Fusion composition in place in the timeline, where the render indication line was halfway through turning red to blue.

In the video clip (not in the fusion composition) I flipped the video from left to right by clicking the FLIP button in the inspector.

This instantly triggered the media offline error in the Fusion clip, not in the video clip.

I deleted all the render cache, but this did not solve the media off-line problem in the Fusion clip.

No media offline error in the video clip.

Even during the beta phase, this problem happened a few times.

I should add that I've also seen it where: One part of the Fusion composition is fine, but another part of the same Fusion composition has "media offline".

Hi Garrett, Roger,

We are unable to see this issue here. Would it be possible for you to share a small sample project which shows this issue easily? Please include media - generate a project archive (.dra) and send it to us as a dropbox(or another) link.
