Version 17 doesn't work and can't return to Version 16

I haven’t used the free version (16) of DR for months and successfully opened it yesterday. Upon opening, I received a pop-up saying that v17 is available, so I clicked to update thinking that it would be great to get the latest version.
Sadly, Version 17 did not work and I was stuck on a screen that said it was looking for Control Surfaces. I spent hours troubleshooting. I decided to uninstall, reboot and reinstall v 17. Same issue, so I uninstalled and downloaded the latest version of 16. After reboot and reinstall, v16 opened but was not functional. When I launched an old project, a blank DR screen appeared and nothing else (no controls to add videos, edit timelines, etc.).
There were no warnings to do all of the stuff I now see in the forums (uninstall all of the associated apps for the old version, delete files from the program directory, delete items from the registry, etc.) It’s complicated and not the easy install that I thought it would be. I tried some of the things I found on the forum (really need a start to finish list of complete uninstall and reinstall) and got a version of 16 to look like it might work because it asked me setup questions.
Using the DR Project Server I created a new DB. All my old projects are gone (they may be in a folder I renamed ) and a new project opens with the same blank screen and no controls.

Can you help me either get v17 to work or return me back to v16, please?

Configuration stats provided. I created a log file using the CapturLogs Bat. However, the desktop file I tried to upload (207MB zip file named DaVinci-Resolve-logs-20210307_101113) returns the following error from the Forum: "413 Request Entity Too Large." Is there another way to share it?

post a link here, with a space in the path, to a dropbox or some other place where you can put the logs and a NFO, as detailed i the FAQs.

Also see in the faqs details on where your project are, assuming you use the standard disk database, and check they are still there. Dont change the details or fader again. but report them here too so someone can help.

you likely will need to uninstall v16 and put v17 in, update the GPU drivers and then recover the DB.

Both your links go to the same Resolve log file.

We need a Windows System Information .NFO file. Open System Information, and do a File - Save to create the .NFO file.

Your logs show 16.2.8 installed and no signs that 17 has been installed. 16.2.8 is unhappy with something in the graphics area, but can't tell what without the .NFO file.

You don't need to uninstall 16.2.8 to install 17.

But if you do need to uninstall Resolve, as in you want to revert to an older version, you do that by using the Windows Control Panel - Programs and Features panel, and right clicking DaVinci Resolve and selecting Uninstall.

Sorry for the delay as I became busy at work. Below is a link to the .NFO file. Any help on how I can get out of my trick back is appreciated. As I mentioned, neither 16 or 17 will work for me. I did, to the best of my ability, use the widows uninstall to uninstall 17 and anything that looked like it was associated before I reloaded 16. Thanks, Doug

There are 2 DisplayLink USB devices on your system. Those could be from some USB device you have connected, or could be from a laptop dock, if you are connected to one of those.

First thing to try is to make those go away and see if that solves the issue. If not, send another Resolve log and NFO.

I do have a newer universal dock that uses DisplayLink given that there's a sticker on the box. I need that device because I switched from monitors that use dshell VGA connectors to HDMI. I did update my DisplayLink adapter driver today to the latest version dated March 2021. I'm not sure how to find the other conflicting DisplayLink device you see.

I uninstalled and reinstalled DR version 16. When I start up, I did see a screen that allows me to click and start a new Untitled Project. When I launch a project, I see a blank screen with a title bar at the top: Logo (circle with three dots of color), DaVanci Resolve - Untitled Project. What I noticed this time after launching an untitled project, is that I can randomly right click in the upper left portion of the screen and see a pop-up menu that allows me 6 choices to Create New Timeline, etc. I clicked Import Media and an Explorer menu pops up and I am able to select files. After choosing files and completing the action, it goes back to a blank screen. Not sure if this extra info helps. I am providing a new system file.

Your latest NFO still shows 2 DisplayLink devices.

Remove the laptop from the dock and restart it. Remove any peripheral devices you have connected to the laptop. Generate a new NFO file and send that.

If not, please send a Resolve log with the laptop in this state.

One step forward, but it was short lived. Running on the laptop alone (no dock or additional devices), V16 loaded and was usable. I uninstalled v16, restarted, downloaded a fresh copy of v17, and loaded it. V17 worked on the laptop alone. When I reconnected my dock, I had an issue unrelated to DR where only one of my two monitors came up. As a test, I tried DR v17 and it came up on the single monitor through the dock. I restarted to reconnect my second monitor. After restart, DR displays the startup graphic and then a pop-up displays: Problem Report for DaVinci Resolve. Regardless of the button I push, the pop-up goes away and DR does not launch now. Any ideas?
