Orange Skin Blotches

PostSat Mar 20, 2021 1:05 am

I am getting orange skin blotches on a subject.
Source one, front camera, FS7/SLOG3.
Source two, side camera, A7RII/SLOG3.
Both shots were fairly underexposed.
Any idea how I might be able to remove the orange?
Thanks,
Jay

The "Color Compressor" is your friend.

Are those cameras 8 bit?

I think this issue is pretty common on Sony camera when under exposed. They love light. Over expose if anything. Fix it in resolve. Mask and feather, then delicately desaturate.

Thanks guys.
The client provided 4444 files from P2 so I don't know if they recorded in 8 or 10 bit but they were both way underexposed and both Sony cameras too.
I will give the compressor and mask/feather/desat techniques a go.

Yes, this plugin (Studio-only?) is essential.

Jay,

This clip suffers from 4 issues:

- Harsh lighting (no softbox, look at the hard shadow from the earring)
- Under-exposure (noted)
- Poor makeup artist technique (that's the cause of the orange splotch)
- Harsh, grainy subject skintone

There are two powerful tools you have at your disposal that can help remedy this.

1. On the EDIT panel, the "Beauty" effect (comes with Studio only). Use gently.

2. On the COLOR panel, the Mid-Tone detail control (see upper-right of screenshot), also use gently.

Either/or a combination of both along with tweaking color and exposure will eliminate this without having to mask out the area and do it "by hand". Feel bad for the subject; that was an amateur-ish shoot all around.
