Installation issues DaVinci Resolve (17 and 16)

Hello. I took the plunge last week and updated to DVR17. The programme initially refused to play any audio or video I put into it but then it just crashed every time I turned it on.
I couldn’t figure out a fix so I uninstalled 17 and reinstalled 16.2.8.
But that would not fully install because it kept coming up with an error message about being unable install the RAW add on and won’t complete the process.
So now I have neither and I don’t know what to do.
Any suggestions or help appreciated as I really enjoyed using this software.

These problems are unusual, so I'm leaning in the direction of a system issue.

I'm a proponent of doing this job on a desktop dedicated to editing - nothing extraneous installed like games, email, office, security, development, etc.

Is that true in your case?
