Footage not showing when connected to external monitor

PostSun Mar 21, 2021 6:59 pm

So I’m new to resolve and have messed around in it a bit finishing projects but planning to move completely over premiere for a more streamlined workflow. But whenever I connect my external monitor via usb cable to my MacBook Pro, anywhere the footage shows up in the program becomes a green square. And if I scrub through it it will flicker back and forth but resolve is totally unusable with my external monitor. Anybody know what causes this and what might fix it? I am on the free version but just ordered a pocket 6k and will be moving over to the full version. I saw something about maybe using a decklink but haven’t found any ways online to connect to a MacBook Pro. Any help at all would be appreciated. I’m ready to move from premiere

Please describe your hardware, the GPU in particular. Resolve is very demanding on that side.
When you say your screen is connected by USB, are you referring to a USB-C to HDMI cable?

Yes, connecting two monitors in via HDMI to usb c adapter into the MacBook Pro. One monitor is a Samsung 4k monitor the other is an LG TV.

attaching a few screenshots of the gpu and what the issue looks like. All the media windows show up as green. As soon as I unplug the monitors and restart Davinci it comes back normal.

Sidenote, if the specs on this computer suck it's a work computer, I didn't personally buy it haha

The GPU should be good. But some USB adapters can be problematic with Resolve. What happens with only one screen connected?

Same thing. When just using the monitor or the tv. So decklink wouldn't help right? I could also try looking at the drivers for this usb to HDMI cable. It was acting kind of weird when I first got it and I had to download some drivers and go through quite a hassle to get it working. Is there any that you would recommend that might help resolve this issue?

Get an adapter that doesn’t need drivers, the Mac shouldn't need it. Many USB devices with special drivers cause problems with Resolve, on PCs too.
I use two cheap adapters for our Macs without any drivers and they work fine with Resolve.
An I/O device by BM will be for a different purpose: monitoring only, but with correct colors.

Thank you! I’ll get a new adapter and then install the full version and hopefully that helps! Appreciate the answers!!
