On the last couple of projects (both on version 17) I've been getting severe lags, not just in playback but just moving around the timeline and dragging clips. I think my system is pretty decent but it seems to be maxing out my CPU and RAM quite often. Basic color grading, minimal or no video FX, Pocket 4k BRaw and GH5 footage (which I've edited for over a year with no real issues.)
I dropped the playback to 1/4 resolution and it's still unplayable at times. Changed the video monitoring format to 1080p and it's defintely better, but I had no issues using 4k, previously.
No, it isn't a dedicated editor. No games, but I use it for emails, documents, etc. I have antivirus installed. I've turned it off to see if that helps, to no avail.
Trying to playback optimized media, today, on the NVMe drive and I continually have to stop and start because of the lag. Looking at the task manager during playback and it shows Resolve peaking or getting very close on CPU and RAM usage.
No idea why I'm having such trouble on this newer machine.
The i7 8700K only have 16 pci lanes and used for your 16x grahics card ! So if you NVMe drive is pci 4x and connect direkt to you cpu - then you graphic card will only do the speed of 8x ! The manual of your motherboard can tell if it has ekstra chipset for NVMe drive or not !
I am experiencing the same issue with stuttering playback in Resolve 17. Previously everything was running smoothly but now it is not possible to do any work!
I have tried everything with Optimised media, with Proxy mode, with smart cache.. Nothing helps.
My system is not the newest but so far it was handling editing well.

It's an Asus Z390-e. I'll check the manual when I get a second. I did do speed tests on the drive and it is running bandwidth as advertised.
If ur using NVIDIA and it’s not working, check ur GPU driver. Which specific one is running. Note, latest doesn’t help anyone fault find. Try a complete GPU driver update
Not sure that the GPU is the bottleneck. The entire interface seems to lag and when I'm zooming in and out of the timeline, as well as moving clips around. This is all with the source files being located on a 1TB WD Black NVMe. Even when using a quarter or half resolution on playback AND trying optimized media.
*May have solved my issue. I had several Windows Updates backed up due to a corrupt file. I cleared the Windows Update folder and installed all the past updates. After a couple of restarts, it seems to be running much smoother. Will update as I work today.
Now, when rendering anything with a fusion title, the render freezes and the time increases, exponentially. My only option is to force close Resolve and try again.
I've lowered the render speed from Maximum to 100, to 75, and to 50. Nothing works.

I am having this same issue. Almost anything with fusion text+ or text3d does this in 17.1. :-/ Really wish there was a fix for this, since I have a project where I need text over almost the entirety of a 1.5 hour-long video (sports).
