DR17 - when adding clip to timeline, the video doesn't show

PostTue Mar 23, 2021 2:11 am

Hello,

Im having an issue when adding a clip to a timeline. The clip doesn't show video on the timeline however I know the clip's video works. I opened the clip in a new project, it even works in the same project in a new timeline - just not the timeline I want to add it to.

I'll add a screenshot:

Its likely you are on Windows and using the free version and the codec for this clip is not supported in that combination.

Hi Peter, thanks for taking a look.

I am on windows, it is the free version of DR - however, I don't think its a codec issue. All the other clips in my bin are from the same recording. I tried researching for a while and just decided since the clip works correctly in a new timeline, to copy the rest of my original timeline to the new one and that worked fine.

The timeline just sorta broke. I checked the usual suspects like position lock or locked video tracks - all of that was OK. I couldn't even add clips that were already on the timeline and working.

Your Track Destination wasn't set for video, just audio. That could be relevant.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

BINGO!!

I had already exported the new timeline, but I'm sure someone will google this in 3 years and it will save them lots of trouble.

This was 100% the problem.

For anyone in the future, click the greyed out "V1" in the video track - or "A1" if you're issue is reversed - that should do the trick.
