Thanks to both of you for all the help.
I think both of you are right (Mr. Tufvesson with the better safe than sorry approach; as well as Mr. Scheel with the if it ain't broke, don't fix it approach)...I think both are choices that people can reasonably make depending on their own situations.
I was not knowledgeable enough to:
you just have to uninstall the software by removing the install folder under /opt manually
so I ended up reinstalling Ubuntu from scratch.
I have been able to install the MakeResolveDeb modified Linux DVS17.1 and use my activation code.
However, I have run into another issue...unable to get my projects from my old computer running on the new installation.
See my other post at:
viewtopic.php?f=21&t=138197I am not sure if this is a Debian/Linux phenomenon but perhaps one of you could LMK if there is some special way I should "find" the Database or Projects folder so that I can put the Projects.db files in there.
And if there is some special method I should use to relink the media clips.
Thanks a bunch. And again, I appreciate all the help I can get.
