Alexa Mini LF SUP 7.0 Beta Crash

PostSat Mar 27, 2021 5:31 am

Hey there,

Just had a question steaming from curiosity. ARRI released a BETA version SUP 7.0 today for the Alexa Mini LF. In the 'known issues' section of the release notes they write:

Clips appear scrambled in Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve 17.1
Clips recorded in Apple ProRes 2.8K S35 4:3 – 2.8K, Apple ProRes 4.5K LF 2.39:1 – 4.5K and Apple ProRes 4.5K LF 3:2 Open Gate – 4.5K appear scrambled in Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve 17.1 and cannot be further processed in this program. Please note, that a future version of Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve should be able to process these clips.

I shot a bit of footage and can confirm that this is an issue both on Resolve 17 and 17.1. Footage was ProRes 4444 4.5k Open Gate. Once a clip tries to display in the source monitor in the Media page, it displays scrambled and then the program crashes.

Funny enough, Premiere 15 (2021) handles it fine. Just curious what would cause such a severe reaction to ProRes footage?

Hi Peter,

Here is a screenshot of the source monitor right before the crash.

But I just upgraded to 17.1.1 Build 9 and it seems to be fixed now!

Still confused how ProRes would have a playback issue? Thanks!
