Resolve 17.0 - 17.1 - 17.1.1 - only crashes

PostWed Mar 31, 2021 11:21 pm

Hey support team and fellow resolvers!

I experienced a huge round of crashes, reinstalls, new installs, updates and systemchecks after I installed 17.0.
I switched severeal times from version to version up an down. Until I finaly can't open Resolve at all. Well not completely true, I can open it in compatibility mode on, set to win 8 or even win 7. But then the performance of the overall software is way to bad to work with. UI is very slow and playback is stuttering around.

General summary:
17.1.1 Build 9 (currently installed) & 17.1 = massive performance issues, only opens in compatibility mode for windows 8/7.
17.0 = super performance. But once it crashes the first time, it does not open anymore.

I really like to use my speed editor keyboard, thats why I don't like to go back to v16.

I've attached crash reports and hardware information. I would really apreciate any help and ideas. If any information is missing please ask :)

Best, Wolfgang

Graf,

I can see Windows error logs for multiple applications - including the file explorer and NAS software - indicating an issue with either something fundamental in Windows, or with peripherals.

To check peripherals, as a diagnostic, can you try running Resolve with only the power cable connected to the laptop? i.e. without the Decklink Mini Monitor, the two external displays, NAS and other peripherals?

If you're able to start up then, an elimination process would help figure out which device shows an issue.

If there are still startup issues, can you get a new set of logs and an NFO - with peripherals still disconnected?

Regards
Shrinivas

Hi Shrinivas,

thank you for looking at this case!

I did detach everything which is not essential to the system. But only to clarify as you mentioned me working on a laptop, I am working on a desktop pc, cumstom build.
This in mind I began my testings using only the DVI port of my GTX1060. I constantly added one device after each other. It all worked really great until I plugged in the cheap usbwebcam adapter for hdmi signals where I capture my pocket4k signal.
I will keep on working without usbvideo adapter and see after a while how it performs.

I've attached another pack of reports for each step of attaching devices. Please find it here: dropbox. com/sh/rnxjqc60c2yy8i6/AADpeu_UmeCOs3K7flkGCxzpa?dl=0

Let me know if you can find something there.

Best, Wolfgang

This is the reason I frequently recommend that an edit system be dedicated to editing. Do other tasks on another machine.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

New Resolve user, loving it, but crashing so often it's really putting me off.

Resolve 17.1.1 Build 9

2014 iMac 27" retina
32 GB RAM
3.5 Ghz quad-core Intel I5
AMD Radeon R9 M290X 2 GB

Resolve works for awhile but crashes, one thing that seems fairly consistent is trying to add a "Center Reveal" title.

Sometimes I get prompts that Resolve is broken and I need to reinstall... I did reinstall (just deleting the app) and it didn't help.

Let me know if you'd like me to perform steps to help debug.

That’s not a very high powered iMac, and quite old now. See the FAQs above for how to generate logs and NFO and how to post.

I feel your pain. I was editing on version 16 and rendering at over 120fps with my gen 10 Core I-5, 32gb of Ram, and 1650 Super graphics. After a recent update to Windows and my Nvidia card, I'm stuck using compatibility mode (and can sometimes get Davinci to boot in Windows 10 mode "once" if I uninstall and reinstall the graphics drivers). No matter where I get it to boot, I'm stuck at 60% CPU utilization, practically 0 GPU utilization, and only delivering 55 to 60fps output. Doesn't matter what version of Davinci I am on. Something happened with the updates that needs to be worked out, and it's obvious that multiple people from this forum and Facebook are facing similar problems. I'm confident it'll be worked out.

"Dedicated graphics machine" or not... the same Windows or Nvidia update would likely have messed me up.

What exact Nvidia driver are you using?
Resolve Studio 20.0 build 49
Dell XPS 8700 i7-4790, 24GB RAM, 2 x Evo SSDs, GTX1060/6GB (572.16 Studio Driver), Win10 Home, Speed Editor, Faderport 1, Calibrated Eizo ColorEdge CS230 + BenQ & Samsung monitors for UI, Canon C100mk2, Zoom H2n.

Hey, I'm running into a similar issue, In my case, Davinci Resolve is not opening at all in task manager it DaVinci opens for a second and gets suspended by itself immediately. I have also tested new and old Nvidia drivers but I face the same issue. Davinci used to work fine before I reinstalled windows 10. But after that, it won't open.

I saw on the forum that reinstalling windows might help so I again reinstalled windows 10 but Davinci simply won't open this time as well.

Here is the google drive link which contains both the log file and windows information file
